🛋️ Couch Language Ideas
Hide & seek objects – Hide toys under, behind, or between cushions. Kids practise prepositions (“under the cushion,” “behind the couch”).
Obstacle course – Climb over, crawl under, go around the couch. Great for action words and following directions.
Story seat – Sit together and tell or retell stories using puppets, dolls, or even just the cushions as characters (“This is Mr Cushion, he’s sleepy”).
Sorting game – Line up cushions by size, colour, or shape. Talk about comparisons (“bigger, smaller, tallest, shortest”).
Cushion shop – Pretend each cushion is for sale. Practise role-play: asking, answering, using money words.
Emotion practice – Use cushions as “faces” and act out different feelings (“This cushion is happy, this one is angry”).
Treasure hunt – Hide picture cards or household items around the couch. Give multi-step instructions to find them.
Cushion counting – Stack and count cushions, practise plurals, or make sentences (“There are three cushions on the couch”).
Imaginative play – Turn the couch into a bus, boat, or spaceship. Encourage storytelling and new vocabulary.
Yes/No game – Place an item on the couch and ask silly questions (“Is this a banana?” “No, it’s a sock!”). Builds questioning and humour.
