Activate Mental Health

Activate Mental Health Improving well-being through fun and human connection 😆 Our values:

Acceptance: we welcome people from all walks of life.

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic mental health initiative that promotes the importance of community & social connection for positive mental health & wellbeing. Established in 2016 as the Perth Active Depression Support Group, the group has grown and continues to assist its members in improving their mental health through dynamic social activities. Our mission:

Improving well-being through a positive, vibrant and well connected social community. Community: we provide a welcoming and inclusive platform for our members to feel connected and valued. Fun: we run engaging and enjoyable events. This group generally operates in the central areas of Perth and runs the occasional online meetup.

💬 What our community says matters.

These heartfelt testimonials are from our 2025 Annual Impact Survey, and they truly speak volumes.

“I became very sick with my mental health and self-isolated. Finding the right mental health program has helped me to feel accepted.”

“AMH has added something precious to my life, plus an extra dose of fun. I’ve met some very special people I wouldn't have met otherwise. Lucky me!”

From creative workshops to nature walks, Silent Book Club to coffee catch-ups, our members remind us that healing happens in connection and joy.

Activate Mental Health community impact has been greatly enhanced by the Rotary Club of Northbridge

Recently, we hosted:

1) A Christmas Day Picnic at Kings Park
2) A Vision Board Workshop at BOOtoo Cafe
3) Subsidised tickets for the Terracotta Warriors exhibition at the WA Museum.

We also continue our weekly Hyde Park Walking Group with their support.

Upcoming events include:
1) A Valentine's Day paint-by-numbers session
2) Eight Ball Pool at Pot Black North Perth.

Their small, but significant support, is having a ripple effect in the community.

We’re seeking like-minded organisations to sponsor our efforts and help improve mental well-being in the community.

🌍✨ Global but local 💬

What started as a simple twilight walk turned into something truly special, a gathering of kindred spirits from all corners of the world. We met at South Perth Foreshore, took in the stunning views across the water, and shared stories as the sun dipped below the skyline.

Then came the feast, an impromptu dinner at the South Perth Streats food trucks. From Malaysian satay to Mexican tacos, every bite was a celebration of culture, connection, and community.

Activate Mental Health events are never just about the activity. They’re about the people. And this one reminded us: connection knows no borders.

Want to be part of something warm, welcoming, and wildly diverse?

Here’s an early insight from Activate Mental Health's annual impact survey on how members perceive and describe this group to others.

One of the survey questions is: "How would you describe this group to others?"

Our Google form produces an AI summary of the responses. Here’s what it had to say.

💚 Supportive and Welcoming: The group is described as supportive and welcoming to all, friendly, easygoing, accepting, inclusive, and open to new people.

🤗 Community and Care: It is seen as a bunch of kind-hearted, community-spirited people who care about others' well-being, are very discreet and thoughtful, and provide support.

😆Activities and Fun: The group is characterised as being inclusive, friendly, and fun, with activities that people enjoy, and is sometimes described as entertainment or a "feel-good activity-based group.”

🧠 Knowledgeable and Understanding: Respondents noted that the group is very knowledgeable about mental health, offers support, is understanding, and allows people to "be myself.”

🕊️For Everyone: It is simply described as "For everyone" and as providing inclusive, helpful social connections.

We’re always amazed at what this community does and the impact it has.

A huge thank you to the Victoria Park Rotary for their generous $500 donation to Activate Mental Health. This support will help us refresh our board game collection for our long‑running monthly Board Games Night.

Since launching in August 2016 at the Victoria Park Community Centre, this event has become one of our most-loved community traditions. We haven’t updated our games library in a while, so this contribution means our members will soon have a wide range of new and exciting options to enjoy together.

If you’d like to support Activate Mental Health, donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

You can contribute here: https://www.activatemh.com.au/donate
