Are you curious about egg freezing? Not everyone needs to freeze their eggs, but for some, it can make a real difference. Here, Dr. Kamara explains who should consider egg freezing and why, noting that age is one of the biggest factors affecting the number and quality of eggs collected. Alongside age, certain medical factors, like endometriosis, fibroids, past pelvic infections, or fertility challenges, can make earlier egg freezing a good idea. Access to Medicare rebates for egg freezing are only available to those who meet certain medical criteria. That’s why having open conversations about your fertility plans early is so important.

Ovulation kits can be a helpful tool, but they’re not always reliable – especially if you’re not testing every day or if your hormones fluctuate in ways that aren’t typical. For people with PCOS, this is common: their LH levels can remain elevated throughout their cycle, preventing ovulation from occurring. This often leads to false positive signs of ovulation on LH detector kits. That’s why timing ovulation with PCOS can be tricky, but understanding your hormones is the first step forward.

Many donors, and families using donor s***m, often ask: how many families can one donor help? In Western Australia, the law is clear: a s***m donor can only help create a total of up to 5 families world-wide. This legal limit is in place to protect donor-conceived people, manage genetic connections, and ensure donation remains ethical and transparent for everyone involved. If you're considering becoming a s***m donor and want to know more, contact Fertility North on (08) 9301 1075.

❄️ Although egg quality is highest before 25, most people with ovaries don’t consider egg freezing that early - unless there’s a medical reason.

Planning ahead in your late 20s is a smart move, as research shows fertility decline becomes more noticeable after 35. That’s why early to mid 30s is often a common – and ideal – time to freeze eggs.

By then, many people have a clearer sense of their future, values, and whether egg freezing aligns with their family goals. It’s not just about biology, it’s about life timing and what’s right for you.

Curious if egg freezing is right for you? Contact Fertility North to explore your options.

July is Fibroid Awareness Month - a great moment to talk about just how common fibroids really are.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. Many people will have them at some point, often without any symptoms. While fibroids don’t always impact fertility, in some cases they can affect conception or pregnancy outcomes.

If you’ve been diagnosed with fibroids or have concerns, there are ways to manage them and options to support your reproductive health.

Fertility treatment can be overwhelming in ways that aren’t often spoken about, and that matters. Emotional wellbeing is just as important as the physical process and deserves more space in the conversation.
