The Mirena intrauterine device is now registered in Australia for up to 8 years for contraception. This is wonderful news for Australian women and makes the levonorgestrel releasing IUD even more attractive given the fact that it is the most effective long acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) .
In Scandinavia LARC uptake is over 30%. In Australia only 11% of women use LARC. If you would like more information about IUD, make an appointment with Dr Anna Pham. Have you been considering an IUD? (Intrauterine Device)

Dr Anna Pham from Picton Family Medical Centre specialises in women's health, including IUD insertions.

Intrauterine devices (IUDs) are small contraceptive devices that are inserted into the uterus (womb)
They are used in many ways, as a form of contraception, to treat heavy periods, or for menopause management.

IUDs can have hormones in them, or can be hormone free (Copper IUDs)

On ANZAC Day, our Practice pays its respects to the brave Australians and New Zealanders who served, and continue to serve, in conflicts around the world. We will be closed today, to commemorate this important day, and will reopen on Friday 26 April.
