Sending a big thank you to Mater baby Indi for supervising the wrapping of these beautiful TV stands for our paediatric unit!

Indi's dad Phil and the team at Attention To Detail were incredibly generous with their time and services, individually colour wrapping these stands to bring some extra brightness to some of our littlest patients and their families 🥰

❤️Very proud of our team for helping out the children’s ward at the Mater hospital with a project this week. These stands are for moving around video game stations for the kids to play while at the hospital and the staff wanted to make them a bit more fun and asked if we could help out. We wrapped each one in a different coloured PPF to make them stand out a bit more and to withstand a bit of a knock here and there.

Personally I recently had my beautiful daughter Indi delivered at the Mater and wanted to show my appreciation by giving back in a small way that I can, doing these in our own time and at no cost to the hospital. Hopefully the money saved can be put towards some more games for the kids to play instead 💜

Mater Private Hospital Townsville is taking patient care to the next level 💕🙌

The hospital’s “Catherine’s Cupboard” contains clothing, toiletries, pyjamas and shoes for patients who arrive without those items.

Mater Foundation Community Relationships Manager Alistair Baggott said the program provides vulnerable patients with the items they need to feel “happy and comfortable.”

Meet Townsville's centennial woman! 🏅

Gladys Marnock celebrated a very special milestone last week, reaching 100 years old while at Mater Private Hospital Townsville on Tuesday.

After a recent fall resulting in a fractured elbow, Gladys was being cared for by staff in Townsville's medical ward and Geriatrician Dr Ragu Kathiresu.

Gladys celebrated with a lunch at the Townsville RSL with the local branch of the War Widows Association, before celebrating with cake and visits by a range of local staff and patients in her room.

Her advice to others looking to make it to 100? “Mind your own business and keep out of trouble.”

Happy birthday, Gladys! 🎈

Mackay’s Kerry Stubbings was the first Australian patient to undergo a robotically assisted shoulder replacement using the Stryker Mako robot, made available through community donations to Mater Foundation.

Mater is proud to continue innovating with the latest advances in technology.

Little Ivy Napiorkowski has made medical history by becoming Australia’s youngest-ever robotic surgery patient!

The three-year-old from Weipa was suffering pain from a pelviureteric obstruction, but is smiling again after undergoing ground-breaking surgery at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

“Her recovery was awesome,” said mum April.

“Ivy knows all about her special operation – and she couldn’t be more proud of herself!”💜

This robotic technology was generously donated through community fundraising efforts led by Mater Foundation.

THANK YOU TOWNSVILLE!

Thanks to your generosity, more than $2,027,449 was raised on Mater Giving Day to help us continue to deliver world-class patient care, life-saving medical equipment, groundbreaking research, and vital patient support services for the Townsville community 💙

Amongst our wonderful supporters on Giving Day were Peter and Linda from Collinsville, who were inspired to donate $1,000 after the exceptional care Linda received during her recent stay with us.

Giving day was also an opportunity to give thanks to our Mater People. A big shout out to Coffee Presto for generously making over 230 coffees for our hardworking staff, and to Private Emergency Health Australia (PEHA) for sponsoring the staff prize wheel.

Thank you to everyone involved in making Giving Day a huge success.

Our story

The Mater Misericordiae Hospital Townsville opened in 1945 in West End when the Sisters of Mercy purchased the Lister Private Hospital from Dr Halberstater OBE.

In 1962 the Hospital was relocated from West End to the present Mater Hospital Pimlico site on Fulham Road, where it had a bed capacity of 50. The transfer to the new Hospital was made possible by the support provided to the Sisters of Mercy by a dedicated group of local fundraisers. This support has continued over the years and has enabled the Sisters of Mercy to expand services significantly.

The Mater Women's & Children's Hospital Hyde Park was purchased in 2007.

In 2008 the Mater Misericordiae Hospital Townsville Limited changed its name to Mater Health Services North Queensland and the Mater Women’s & Children’s Hospital was born at a separate facility in Hyde Park, becoming the first regional facility dedicated to women’s and children’s health.
