After a natural disaster, it's common to find ourselves grappling with loss and trauma, experiencing feelings that are hard to understand. β›ˆοΈ It is OK not to be okay, and you're not alone in this journey. ✨🀝

πŸ”†πŸ‘‡ While you are dealing with insurance claims and cleaning up after the storms, it's very important to take time out for your own mental health πŸ’ͺ🌸

1️⃣ Acknowledge Your Feelings: Don't hesitate to allow yourself to feel. It's okay to grieve, to be angry, or to feel lost. πŸŒ«οΈβ›…

2️⃣ Express: Write about your feelings or share your experiences with friends or support groups. Expressing helps in healing.πŸŽ™οΈπŸ“πŸ’š

3️⃣ Self-care: Make sure you're eating healthy, sleeping well, and exercising regularly - they all play a major role in your mental health. 🧘πŸ₯¦πŸ’€

4️⃣ Stay Connected: Reach out to your loved ones and create a support system. Connection is vital in this journey. πŸ€πŸ’žπŸ“ž

5️⃣ Seek Help: If the feelings get too overwhelming, please consider professional help. The City of Gold Coast and Scenic Rim Regional Council have recovery hubs offering assistance. Today is the inaugural Whooping Cough Day, created by the Immunisation Foundation of Australia to shine a spotlight on the threat of whooping cough and the simple ways people can remain protected.

Whooping cough is a highly infectious and potentially fatal bacterial infection that can cause severe, uncontrollable coughing fits and difficulty breathing. Although babies are at greatest risk of severe whooping cough, in Australia, more than half of all confirmed cases occur in adults.

The theme for Whooping Cough Day is November 8. Get Up-To-Date. Vaccinate!

With infections likely to surge during spring and summer, vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and loved ones against this highly contagious disease. Pregnant women, babies from six weeks of age, children and adults are encouraged to stay up-to-date with whooping cough vaccination and boosters.

Check your vaccination status by talking to a GP, pharmacist or by accessing your Immunisation History Statement via the Express Plus Medicare app at https://ow.ly/6iq350Q4SF5

Do you know where Queensland's first hospital was built? πŸ€”

The Moreton Bay General Hospital was built on George Street, Brisbane way back in 1849. It took in patients from across Queensland, including the Moreton, Darling Downs, Wide Bay, Burnett and Maranoa districts.

Hospital staff treated more than 90 patients in the first year for diseases like typhoid and tuberculosis. 🀒

But as illness spread, more beds were needed. A new hospital was built on the present site of the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital (RBWH) in Herston, then known as the Quarries.

Today the RBWH is the largest hospital in Australia and has been open for 155 years. πŸ™Œ

Two new subvariants of COVID-19 β€” BA.5 and BA.4 β€” are circulating Queensland, with the BA.5 strain the most dominant. 🦠

It's likely the number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 will increase over the next few weeks. It's also likely more people will be hospitalised than during the peak of the previous wave in late January.

If you've had COVID-19 previously, you can still get it again.

But there are things you can do to protect your own health. Most importantly, stay up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccinations. πŸ›‘οΈ

How many vaccine doses do you need? People aged:
βœ… 50+ years: 4 doses are strongly recommended
βœ… 30-49 years: 3 doses are recommended, and a 4th dose is available for those who want it
βœ… 16-29 years: 3 doses are recommended
βœ… 5-15 years: 2 doses are recommended

Some people with severe or complex health needs may need additional doses.

You should wait 3 months after your previous dose, or after having COVID-19, to get your next dose.

Talk to your GP or book your appointment via http://health.gov.au/vaccine-clinic-finder…
