Three years of The Growth Room 🎉💛✨

It’s been another year filled with lots of growth, challenges, honour & gratitude.

While socials would suggest that I have been MIA this calendar year, I have felt more connected to community than ever before & for that I am so, so grateful.

I love connecting with women; supporting them through challenging & at times, equally joyful times.

The stories, courage & strength I witness in the women I support truly inspires me & it is such an honour to provide a collaborative & safe space for healing, discovery & growth.

As I reflect on the last three years, I am filled with immense gratitude. I’ve learned so much & look forward to building on this learning to continue offering a space for preparation, growth & support for women in the perinatal period ✨

Excited to have joined this wonderful national network of Perinatal Psychologists at Centre for Perinatal Psychology 💫

We are delighted to welcome Angelina Crea to our national network of perinatal psychologists.

Based in Plenty, VIC, Angelina is a warm and compassionate psychologist who enjoys working collaboratively with clients with a relational and strengths-based approach. Angelina has a special interest in women's health and perinatal psychology; recognising that the perinatal period from preconception through to parenthood can be both incredibly wonderful and challenging.

After becoming a mother herself and experiencing the transformative experience of motherhood; specifically experiencing her second pregnancy and birth during the global pandemic, Angelina recognised the importance for holistic supports for women during this period.

Angelina has trained through the Perinatal Training Centre in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health.

‘Matrescence’ is defined as the process of becoming a mother & is used to describe the physical, psychological, social & emotional changes that a woman goes through during the incredible transformation that is the transition to motherhood.

When we become a mother, everything changes.

It is so important that we acknowledge this transformation to ensure that we allow ourselves space to grow; to both reach out for & accept the right support if we need it, as we navigate these changes.

For me, just learning about matrescence; the fact such a term existed & beginning to reflect on what it meant for me, was & has been transformative in itself.

Because of society’s messages & expectations of mothers, we are often very quickly left feeling like we must be doing motherhood wrong, when in reality we experiencing a profound human experience ✨

Learning about matrescence can offset a period of so much growth for new (or seasoned) mothers who are trying to make sense of this incredible transition ✨

🌼 Did you know about matrescence when you first became a mother?
How did it change your experience of motherhood? 🌱

This week we are embracing the vital conversation of Perinatal Mental Health 💞

This years theme is
“We’re here, uncover your village”

Who supports you to be the be able to show up as a good enough mumma each & every day?

Finding your tribe in the incredible journey of motherhood can make all the difference.

Whether it’s finding friends/family who listen, those who offer a helping hand, a fellow mumma who is in thick of the highs & lows too, a trusted GP, perinatal psychologist, maternal child health nurse..(*insert yours here*) — connection to others is invaluable.

This week, let’s acknowledge the value of community, the strength in solidarity & the joy of shared experiences 🫶🏼 while also reflecting on what your village might look like at the moment & what you might need to/ want to add✨

🌱 Often psychologists or therapy is seen as only being needed for you if you are really struggling with your mental health; i.e. you have a diagnosed mental health condition. While therapy certainly has benefits at these times, there are several other times when seeking therapy can be helpful.

As mothers, we often don’t prioritise ourself or our needs, although I wonder what would happen if we started to give ourselves more space — to learn about ourselves, how we relate to those around us, how we relate to the world — this is the kind of space that therapy can offer 🌱

If you’re not sure if therapy might be helpful for you right now, I’d love connect and help you to decide. Get I touch via DM or connect via the link below 👇🏼
