Having a good life requires both inner work and good connections with our community and environment.

At some point , each of us will face challenges greater than the resources we already have (that's why we experience it as a challenge).

These challenges force us to change and adapt. Sometimes, it might be better to develop our inner resources: our skills, talents, clarity, drive, and so on. Sometimes, it may make more sense to expand our social circle or request assistance we never thought would be needed.

I've witnessed it many times that even a small change can bridge the gap and allow a person to get from a place of confusion and stress to a place of confident action.

At Wellbeing Assistance, we support your growth in each and every aspect.

The last of six uplifting activities is exercising.
Our bodies are designed to move. Simple walk, dance, playing with children, or a dog can be sufficient to burn off the stress hormones and release the happiness ones.

Of course, a proper session of exercising can be even more beneficial, but little something is better than nothing.

Religion and spirituality aren't the same thing. Religion in a fundamentalist, extremist edition can be extremely harmful. However, a broadly understood spirituality is linked with many benefits.

Finding time to connect with something greater than yourself improves your wellbeing. It's unrealistic to make a decision to become a spiritual person (we still don't know why some people are and others aren't) but it's possible to remember that finding time for prayer, meditation, or other spiritual practice is important.

When you're sad and you know it, go and learn something new πŸ™ƒ

The funny facts. The in-depth analysis. The new experience to broaden your horizons.

The world is so complicated that it has an endless supply of learning opportunities. It might be a scary thing (I will never know enough) or a fascinating realisation (the adventure of learning is always waiting).

Do you like learning?
What is your favourite way of learning?

Having fun could be a prescription medicine.

Perhaps not only an apple but also a joke a day can keep the doctor away πŸ™ƒ

Our world has commercialised many playful activities and made them less accessible. But dancing in the kitchen, especially with your partner/child/pet, can be what keeps your heart healthy, your mind sharp, and your life a beautiful experience!

Singing in the shower or having that family karaoke night can be what keeps you engaged in your life.

I climb stuff πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Why? I truly don't know, but it's fun! Following a cats motto, 'If I fits I sits' somehow feels funny. And yes, I'm almost 40 and not planning on quitting this habit!

What are your favourite ways to play?

For contrast: putting someone in solitary isolation is one of the worst forms of punishment and torture. We need other people for our psychological stability!

Yes, some relationships are overburdened and are a source of tension and stress, but positive interactions and relationships make us feel safe, connected, and feel good about life.

Having these good relationships in life requires skills. The art of conversation, genuine interest in other people, the will to be vulnerable at times.

Feeling lonely can diminish our life satisfaction, even if we consider ourselves successful in other areas of life, and it has effect both on our mental and physical health.

How can you improve relationships in your life?

We rise by lifting others! It's more than just a saying. We are wired for connection and cooperation. We might create ideologies that go against that, but the truth of our bodies is clear: when you are kind, you feel better!

Always? That depends on how much it takes for you to be kind. Committing to sharing resources that are already scarce in your life brings stress.

However, there are only few people who have absolutely no resources to share. And if anything, we can always offer a smile and a good word.

It's not a magic wand, but it works!

There are six proven ways of uplifting your mood:

1. Helping
2. Positive social interaction
3. Play
4. Learning something new
5. Spiritual practice
6. Exercising

Over the next two weeks, we are going to look closer at each of them.

Do you have your favourite?

For me, an introvert, it's definitely exercising and learning. But it might be because I work with people, so some daily positive interactions are part of the furniture.

Things that matter!

Please sign this petition if you or someone you know are passionate about saving psychology in the public system. The number of psychologists working in the public system (for SA Health) are decreasing rapidly! This means those who are most vulnerable in our society may in the very near future no longer have access to a free psychological service in the public system.

SA Psychologists are the lowest paid public psychologists in the country with salary differences between SA and interstate psychologists ranging between 10-40%. As a result, public psychologists are walking away from the public system. We require a better deal in the current enterprise bargaining. The SA Government must properly address remuneration, recruitment and retention issues and respect for psychologists' skills and training.

Public system psychologists are essential for:

1. learning assessments, determining special school placements, behavioural consultancy, and mental health support in schools

2. development and autism diagnostic assessments in hospitals

3. mental health assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and older persons

4. psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment in hospitals and community rehabilitation

5. child protection and forensic assessments for children and young people where there is supsected abuse and/or neglect

6. forensic assessments in juvenile justice and adult corrections

7. psychological support for perinatal, infant, and child and youth community teams

Without our vital psychological services in the public sector, there will be even more pressure on the health, education, and child protection systems, and it places vulnerable children, adults, and families at further risk. Thre will be more children on waitlists for diagnostic assessments while missing out on important early intervention, and vulnerable adults will not have the care at the time they need it and fall into acute mental health crisis. SA cannot afford to increase ramping pressure or allow our children to fall behind.

SA Psychologists feel privileged and honoured to serve the public; but now we ask for your assistance and support to keep our workforce strong and thriving so that we can continue to help you in the future.

Please sign the petition and let the SA Government know that you want them to respect psychologists and save public psychology.

Public psychologists provide specialist assessment and treatment to people across the lifespan.Β  We are essential for: 1. learning assessments, determining special school placements, behavioural consultancy, and mental health support in schools 2. developmental and autism diagnostic assessments...

Teaching mind-body practice that changes lives.

Bringing harmony and balance at a physical, mental and spiritual level is the main goal of yoga for me and that is the way I practice and teach yoga.

Having agile mind and body, inner focus and peace is something that can be learnt and yoga is an adventurous path leading there. The beginning is just right there, where you currently are. Whether you are experiencing health problems or are at the peak of your physical fitness - yoga provides you with tools to improve your wellbeing. Having experienced all of the yoga benefits, sharing these skills and techniques became the passion that I share with my students of all age groups, all levels of fitness and all walks of life.
