Meet Dr Shankar!
Dr Shankar Seevanayagam BMedSci, MD graduated from Monash in 2022. Like many others before him, he has come on a ‘working-holiday’ to Stradbroke Island for GP Training! So far, he is quite worried he may not want to leave.

Born and raised in Melbourne, he decided it was time for a change of scenery and came to Queensland in 2023, spending time in Townsville, Gold Coast and Beaudesert along the journey so far. He enjoys chronic care medicine, specifically diabetes, obesity and heart health.

Outside of work, he has a love-hate relationship with running, enjoys basketball, AFL, Cricket and is being slowly converted to surfing and golfing (emphasis on slowly). He will be here for the year in 2026.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness month. Australia is now 4 months into a new screening program aimed at detecting lung cancer and get patients onto treatment. It is aimed at smokers as this is the leading cause of lung cancer in up to 90% of cases. If you’re 50-70 and have had years of smoking in your life (current or previous smoker), you may be eligible. Talk to us at SIMC. If you need help to quit smoking, we’re also here to assist.
