To all of you preparing for this cyclone with Horses this is some information I have gathered to help us be ready.
If you’re in a potentially affected area, people have braided with vinyl tape bag tags with the owner details into the Horses mane. Nail polish on horses hooves is another one with your phone number if you are in a flood prone area.
Stockholm tar the Horses hoofs if they are going to be standing in water and sudo cream for after the event.
Halters OFF - you don’t want your horses being hooked particularly in flooding.
Rugs on unless you are in a flood zone.
Rugs off if its likely to flood.
If you are keeping rugs on Horses need to be in high ground away from as many trees as possible. They will huddle in open spaces in a herd if there is more than one with their bums to the wind.
Horses do not like to be stable in these events..
Feed your horses now before the event so they have enough energy and make sure there is clean water if possible and Hay available if possible .
this is the research I have gathered in preparation.
Stay safe, everyone . It is predicted that northern rivers in particular will be hit with flooding and anyone south to the core of the cyclone will be hit with tremendous rain.
We won’t know till the event, of course, but better to be prepared than sorry .
