“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.”
— Jon Kabat-Zinn

We can spend so much energy trying to control the conditions around us that was never ours to control in the first place.

Mindfulness invites a different approach. Instead of fighting the waves, we learn to meet them with awareness, balance, and practice. Surfing doesn’t mean the ocean becomes gentle; it means we become skillful. We learn when to stand, when to fall, and how to climb back on the board with patience and self-compassion.

This week, we are excited to welcome to teaching team!

Originally from Italy, Lu has been living in Australia since 2006. Yoga entered her life in 2016 during a turbulent period, quickly becoming a source of grounding and presence. The yoga mat remains a sanctuary for her - a place to reconnect and find steadiness.

After relocating to Adelaide, Lu completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Stewart Heffernan and in the same year, undertook yin training with Melanie McLaughlin from the Yin Space. She is also a certified Chair Yoga teacher. Stepping out of her comfort zone and diving deep into the study of yoga has been one of her best decisions, and she continues to embrace the role of a perpetual student.

Lu’s classes are open to everyone - simply bring a smile and a willingness not to take yourself too seriously. Outside the studio, she loves spending time in the ocean, surfing, swimming, and hosting friends for delicious home-cooked meals. Always up for a good chat, Lu looks forward to welcoming students on the mat.

You can catch Lu covering some of Stew’s Rise & Flow classes on Thursday mornings at 6am 🌟

We’re thrilled to welcome Issy / to our teaching team!

Issy first discovered yoga in her teens, attending her very first class alongside her beautiful mum. She was immediately drawn to the collective calm that filled the room. The quiet sense of connection, breath, and shared experience on the mat. That feeling has stayed with her ever since.

Alongside her work as a Nurse, yoga has become Issy’s grounding force, a steady, peaceful counterbalance to the fast-paced and often chaotic nature of healthcare. In 2025, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with , inspired to share the same sense of balance and clarity the practice has always offered her.

Issy’s teaching style is gentle, intuitive, and deeply honours each person’s individual body and experience. She loves to weave intention-setting into her classes, helping students anchor into what they most need on any given day.

Her flows are accessible, and thoughtfully paced, designed to make students feel supported, spacious, and connected. While Issy holds space with steadiness and care, she also brings a fun-loving, light-hearted energy to her classes, inviting students to enjoy the practice, not take themselves too seriously, and feel at ease in their own uniqueness.

Port Adelaide Enfield Christmas Parade - This weekend!

The Port Adelaide Enfield Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, 7 December, kicking off at 10:00 a.m. The parade will travel along Commercial Road Light towards the Lighthouse, followed by a lively Street Party on Commercial Road North running until 3:00 p.m.

Please note: Road closures will be in place all weekend from 7am on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday, which may affect your journey to the studio. Make sure to allow extra travel time when travelling on Saturday, 6 November and Sunday, 7 November.

As we move towards the end of the year, we’ve got some shifts happening at The Dock Studios, and we’re thrilled to share them with you.

First, we will be soon introducing and welcoming some new faces to our teaching team. They’re bringing fresh energy, new perspectives, and even more opportunities for our community to learn, grow, and move together.

We’re also making some minor updates to the schedule to better support all the amazing work happening here. Keep an eye out—there’s plenty to look forward to!

Stew will be taking on a new role outside of the studio, which means he’ll be teaching a little less than before. The good news? He’s not going anywhere. You’ll still see him around the studio, teaching, collaborating, and doing what he does best—just in a slightly different capacity.

It’s an exciting time for us, full of movement, growth, and new possibilities. Thanks for being a part of The Dock Studios community. More good things are on the way.

Need a 5-minute reset after a busy day?

Try Legs Up the Wall Pose / Viparita Karani for your end of day wind-down 😴

HOW TO DO IT:
1. Sit with one side of your body touching the wall.
2. Gently roll onto your back as you swing your legs up the wall.
3. Scoot your hips as close to the wall as feels comfortable (they don’t have to touch).
4. Let your arms rest wherever feels comfortable.
5. Close your eyes and breathe slowly, letting the belly soften.
6. Stay for 3–5 minutes, or longer if it feels good.

WHY IT HELPS:
This posture gently encourages your body to shift into a parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) state. It can ease tension in the legs and lower back, calm the mind, and support a feeling of grounding after a busy day.

TIP: Put a folded blanket under your hips for extra comfort, or bend your knees slightly if your hamstrings feel tight.
