Eastside Skatepark Mural - We Want Your Input!

Port Augusta City Council is planning new mural artwork at Eastside Skatepark, including the steps, seats, and low walls across the site. These improvements will help refresh the space and add colour, energy, and character to the skatepark for everyone to enjoy.

We’re inviting the community to help choose the colour scheme that will guide the final artwork.

Vote for your favourite design:
1. Sunset Purple – bold purples and warm sunset tones
2. Earth & Green – natural greens inspired by landscape and country
3. Coastal Bright – vibrant blues, aquas and energetic highlights

Your feedback will help decide which colour direction is used for the final mural design.

This project is funded by The Benevolent Society and supported by Port Augusta City Council.
🗳️ Survey closes: Friday 1 May, 5:00pm

Vote online: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YKQRYK2

Hard copies are also available from the Civic Centre 4, Mackay Street, Port Augusta.

Telstra 4G/5G upgrade for Stirling North

Telstra will be upgrading its mobile base station that services Stirling North to bring a better 4G and 5G user experience.

Mobile services in the area will be temporarily disrupted while the upgrade works are underway.

Upgrade works will commence on site from 22nd April for a period of 8 days.

During these works, the site will need to be switched off for periods of up to 24 hours to safely complete works.

While TELSTRA will do their best to deliver planned works as scheduled, there may be occasions where timings or impacts change due to factors outside our control. Keep up to do date on this outage via telstra.com.au/outages

Important details
Telstra mobile customers will receive an SMS advising of the upcoming work.

These works will not impact NBN, Satellite internet services, PSTN landline services, or mobile coverage from other providers.

Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically connect to another mobile network if available for connection to emergency services.

🌟 Inclusive Communication Boards Installed at Port Augusta Playgrounds🌟

Port Augusta City Council is proud to announce the installation of two new Communication Board playground signs at Gladstone Square and Rotary Park, following ongoing consultation with local community members and key stakeholders.

A form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), these boards promote inclusion and participation for people with communication disability in shared community spaces. Designed by specialist organisation Two Way Street and supported by The Benevolent Society and Westpac Group’s Safer Children, Safer Communities initiative, the project is a strong example of collaboration in action.

Locations and design were guided by input from SA Health’s Child Health and Development team, Mission Australia, Council’s Disability Advisory Group, Port Augusta Special School, and local families—ensuring the boards are practical, accessible and meet real community needs.

Each custom-made board features familiar playground words and well-recognised symbols in a clear grid layout, supporting simple and intuitive communication during play.

💛 More boards are on the way, with additional playgrounds across Port Augusta and Stirling North set to benefit later this year.

⚠️ Notice – Caltrop W**d - Update

Recent rainfall and warm soil conditions continue to provide ideal late-season growth of caltrop across our area, which has also delayed our scheduled w**d spraying program.

Council is actively working to control this w**d. To help us respond more effectively, we encourage residents to report any sightings of caltrop on footpaths or in parks so these areas can be included in our treatment program.

Residents can also play an important role by controlling caltrop and other w**ds on their own properties and disposing of them in their RED waste bin for weekly collection. Please remember to place you plants and any seeds in a bag prior to placing in the bin.

To report caltrop, you can:
• Use the My Local Services app: https://www.localcouncils.sa.gov.au/my-local-services-app (preferred)
• Call Council on 8641 9100
• Email admin@portaugusta.sa.gov.au

Together, we can help keep our community safe and w**d-free.

The regional hub - Port Augusta

Port Augusta City Council is located at the head of Spencer Gulf in South Australia and includes Stirling North and the seaside homes located at Commissariat Point, Blanche Harbor and Miranda and has a population of almost 14,000 people. Council acknowledges and respects the traditional owners, their ancestors and the sharing of lands on which Port Augusta is situated.

Called ‘the crossroads of Australia’ because roads from Sydney to Perth and Adelaide to Darwin all pass through Port Augusta. This regional hub, where the Outback meets the ocean, is a major tourism, shopping, government and service centre. Getting to Port Augusta is easy with multiple air services, seven day bus service to and from Adelaide, and The Ghan and Indian Pacific railway service passing through. The city offers a vibrant range of cafés, pubs and restaurants and accommodation.

There are a range of attractions for the whole family including the Wadlata Outback Centre. To get the whole story on the region, creep through the jaws of Max, a giant Ripper lizard, to begin a journey through the Flinders Ranges & Outback’s ‘Tunnel of Time’. There’s the nationally-accredited Port Augusta Visitor Information Centre onsite where you can find out more about the region, and book tours and accommodation.

See an amazing array of arid zone plants and one of Australia’s most significant collections of Eremophilas at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden. Open daily, it is also home to more than 100 native bird species. Stroll through the AridSmart Display Gardens to discover how to create your own native garden. The visitor centre has a café, serving native-flavoured food and regional wines, as well as a gift and garden shop.
