As temperatures rise, it’s important to take extra care of our pets
Make sure pets always have access to plenty of fresh water and shade
Avoid walking dogs during the hottest parts of the day
Provide cool, well-ventilated areas for animals to rest
🚗 Never leave dogs in cars — even for a short time.
Cars heat up very quickly and can become deadly, even with windows cracked.
Remember - If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet.

Community Update: Public Seating on Commercial Road
Port Augusta City Council advises the community that public seating outside Australia Post on Commercial Road has been removed due to safety concerns and feedback from local businesses.
After businesses raised concerns, Council worked with SAPOL on a CBD Safety Audit. The audit found anti-social behaviour affecting staff and visitors, showing the need for this action to be taken.
Council recognises the importance of seating for older residents and is committed to keeping public spaces accessible and welcoming.
👉 What’s next?
Council is planning to install temporary single or double seating in more suitable nearby locations, where it won’t affect pedestrian flow or safety. These will be developed in consultation with local businesses.
We appreciate the community’s understanding as we balance safety, accessibility, and comfort. Further updates will be shared soon, and we welcome ongoing community feedback.

The footpath through the work zone may also be closed for several days during that period, with pedestrians and cyclists required to cross at the Mackay Street and Flinders Terrace intersections.
