HEALTH ALERT ✨️ Change of season is here!
Its time for a medical system that understands the importance of the seasons💚
Our Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner shares her top 6 practical pillars for balancing spring health - the heavy, moist Kapha { EARTH + WATER} that accumulates in SPRING 💦🍃
1) Ritucharya: seasonal routine for spring ✅️
- Adapt daily habits to the season: rise earlier, engage in warming, stimulating activities, and avoid heavy, damp foods and overindulgence.
- Keep consistency in sleep and meals to support digestion (agni).
2) Diet & digestion ✅️
- Favor warm, light, drying foods: cooked vegetables, legumes, whole grains like barley or millet, and warming spices (ginger, black pepper, cumin).
- Reduce heavy, cold, or sweet-sour-dairy-dense foods that aggravate Kapha (heavy cheeses, fried foods, cold drinks).
- Include bitter and astringent tastes (greens, leafy veggies, sprouts) to balance Kapha.
- Eat at regular times, don’t overeat; finish meals before late afternoon if possible.
3) Daily routine with spring tweaks ✅️
- Start the day with warm water or herbal tea, oil massage (Abhyanga) to boost circulation and reduce stagnation.
- Self-care practices like tongue scraping, brushing teeth, and a brief oil-swab for eyes or nose as appropriate.
- Gentle, consistent activity to move lymphatic & Kapha buildup.
4) Exercise and movement ✅️
- Embrace light to moderate activity: brisk walking, yoga, swimming, dynamic stretching.
- Aim for warmth and movement to stimulate digestion, circulation, and metabolic fire, while avoiding dulling heaviness.
5) Cleansing and purification practices ✅️
- Gentle spring cleansing approaches to reduce mucus and stagnation: oil massage, steam inhalation, nasal cleansing (nasya) if appropriate, & light poultices or warm steam baths/sweden (swedana) to release heaviness.
6) Breath, mind, and sleep ✅️
- Practice pranayama ( slow diaphragmatic breathing, alternate nostril breathing) & daily meditation to clear mental fog and emotional heaviness.
- Prioritize good sleep hygiene (consistent bedtime, wake time, and a calm evening routine)
