When kids struggle with big emotions, communication, focus, or social connection… it can impact the whole family ❤️

As a dad of 2 boys, I get how overwhelming it can feel sometimes. That’s why I love using music therapy to support children and teens with:
🎵 Emotional regulation
🎵 Social & communication skills
🎵 Focus, sequencing & brain organisation

Music creates a safe, engaging way for kids to connect, express themselves, and build confidence, without pressure.

If you’ve been feeling stuck and want support for your child, send me a DM or enquire today! 🎶

🎵 Parents and families, this one’s for you!

Is your child struggling with big emotions, anger, or regulation?
What if we stopped trying to “fix” the feeling… and started connecting with it through music and our body instead?

Let’s shift the focus: let s think of MUSIC as emotions & feelings. This has been a GAME CHANGER in sessions.

I wonder what anger sounds like ? 😡
How about calm ? 😌

Our simple 4-step framework:
🎶 Meet the feeling (where it’s at)
🎶 Feel it
🎶 Match it
🎶 Shift it

When children feel understood emotionally and musically, it creates a safe space to express, regulate, and connect.
That’s a POWERFUL tool. 💫

This awesome drumming game is a fun, music-based way to build: 🎶

🥁Sustained attention = maintaining focus over time (e.g. holding a steady beat consistently)
🥁Alternating attention = shifting focus between tasks/roles (e.g. from a steady beat, to a solo, then back)
🥁Sequencing
🥁Memory
🥁Self-expression & confidence

Outside of therapy, alternating attention might look like a child attending to a task, listening to an instruction from a teacher, retaining that information, then returning back to the task. 🎶

We can also target:
🥁Selective attention = focusing on one stimulus while ignoring distractions
🥁Divided attention = attending to more than one task at once (e.g. listening while playing)

Families - would you try this with your child to support sustained attention?

DM the word “DRUM” if this could help your child! 👇

Working with AuDHD kids means getting absolutely schooled every day.. 😂

Therapist: “Let’s try it this way.”
Client: invents a faster, better, more fun way in 3 seconds..
💁🏻‍♂️😂

Child-led keeps us therapists in our toes at all times, and so it should !

Music + movement + numbers = a super engaging cognitive workout, and this client said it was his favourite 🤩

Know a child who would LOVE this music-based numbers game? Send us a DM ✨

One of my favourite things about music therapy?
We don’t need a child to stop being interested in something to connect with them. We lean into their interests & strengths! Music is a ‘relational bridge’

This weeks session involved a flower playing the saxophone being overloaded with too many volts & having an absolute system malfunction ⚡️🌸🎷😂

Looks chaotic…
Actually working on:
✔️ shared attention
✔️ regulation
✔️ interaction
✔️ connection
✔️ trust

Notice how he initially plays quickly and excitedly, then gradually slows down and begins matching the rhythm of the toy. That co-regulation and shared timing is a window, it’s where so much of the therapeutic work happens. Within these windows 🪟

Kids engage best when we work with what they already love 🎶

Creative sessions yesterday with some of our under 9 clients!

Movement first, THEN focus.

Movement is not universally calming.

Different kids need different inputs:

👉some need high intensity movement
👉some need proprioceptive/heavy work
👉some need vestibular input
👉some become MORE dysregulated with stimulating movement

The key question is:
“What type of movement helps this child reach an optimal arousal state for engagement?”

Everything from rainbow floor flowers, dancing, and making soundscapes with layers of music, focusing on:
🎶 Decision making
🎶 Creative expression
🎶 regulation
🎶 impulse control, sustained attention, alternating attention

Lot of people have been asking about the Sound Surfing event we did last week for the Meet the Maker Event.

Here’s the inspiration behind - SOUND SURFING 🌊🏄

We co-created the sea! We thought of music and sounds as nature, as creative ideas, and explored our imaginations✨🎶

Keen to do it again this Sat 12-3pm in the clinic.

68 Wentworth St, Port Kembla.

What soundscape should we create next ? 🎶✨
