Marine Rescue Port Kembla

Marine Rescue Port Kembla Volunteer organisation professionally trained to strict standard of the NSW State Rescue Board covering an area from Wattamolla to Gerroa to Lake Illawarra

A volunteer organisation professionally trained to strict standards and accredited by the peak NSW rescue authority, the State Rescue Board. Our members work with other emergency services in major disasters. Our members provide a number of vital safety services to the boating community from Stanwell Park to Gerroa, including:

Swift, coordinated marine emergency response
Boating safety education and marine licence course for local boaters
Continuous radio coverage along the coastline

Our rescue vessel crews turn out in all weather and conditions to respond to emergencies and other incidents. A day’s duties might include a Search and Rescue mission for people overboard, towing a disabled vessel back to port or transporting medical teams or firefighters to isolated and inaccessible locations. Our radio base volunteers monitor the airwaves 24/7 for boaters in need of rescue or less urgent assistance. Our radio safety net includes a Log On and Log Off service for boaters. If they do not Log Off when expected, action can be promptly taken to locate them. Marine Rescue Port Kembla consists of Three bases:
Port Kembla "Hill 60" Search and Rescue coordination centre
Port Kembla offshore Boat Crew base
Lake Illawarra Boat Crew Base
