There’s no rush here.

January has a way of arriving loudly. New targets, new timelines, new expectations stacked neatly into the first few weeks of the year. It can feel like you’re already behind before you’ve even begun.

But here, the pace is different.

Care doesn’t work on deadlines. Support doesn’t need urgency to be effective. What matters is steadiness, trust, and the reassurance that you don’t have to hurry to be held well. As the year opens, what we offer remains the same as it ever was: consistent presence, familiar faces, and space to arrive exactly as you are.

Nothing essential has changed.

The work continues.
The support continues.
You’re not late.

As this year begins, take a breath. Let yourself start calmly, knowing that care is already in place.

It’s hotting up across South Australia today.

At Positive Future Self, we care about our community, so we wanted to share a brief reminder based on advice from the SES — those who work tirelessly to help keep people safe during conditions like these.

Extreme heat can affect people differently, so it’s worth taking a moment to slow down, look out for others, and follow recommended precautions.

This information is shared from SES. Follow official advice.

Stay safe and take care.

Some things don’t need to change.

At the turn of a new year, change is usually the headline. New goals. New plans. New places.

But not everything that matters needs reinventing.

If you look at the map, you’ll see two points on the same photograph. Our old premises. Our new one. Different doors, same streets, same community woven between them. What’s moved is the address. What hasn’t is our commitment to showing up, doing the work, and being here when you need us.

Reliability is quiet. It doesn’t shout for attention. It’s built over time through presence, consistency, and follow-through. Year after year, that’s what we’ve aimed to offer, and that’s what continues into this new space and this new year.

So yes, the pin has shifted slightly.

But the promise hasn’t.

If this place has mattered to you, helped you, or supported someone you care about, share this with your community.

Let them know where to find us and what will always stay the same.

Our new grief and loss support groups will be starting in the New Year.

These groups offer A Space for Healing and Hope.

If you’re grieving right now, please know you’re not alone, even if it feels that way sometimes. If you know someone grieving a loss- please share this with them.

Our groups are run by an experienced counsellor, Anne Hueppauff (from Positive Future Self), who brings not only professional skills but also passion for healing and real, lived experience of loss.

It’s completely free, and everyone is welcome. You don’t need to have the right words, or know exactly what to say- in fact you don't need to say anything- just bring yourself.

We know joining something like this can feel scary… but often, the bravest thing we can do is to take that first small step toward connection.

Let’s learn together, support one another, and remind ourselves that hope can grow even in hard times.

Please let Erin know via email erin@wcycs.com.au if you’re interested in coming and which time suits you best. Please note that there are 6 sessions in total, which are held fortnightly.

You’re not alone in this. We’d love to have you with us!

A big thank you to Rural Health Innovation Fund, supported by Country SA PHN, for funding our grief and loss support groups- allowing us to turn a long term vision into action!

I'm feeling needy, could you give this post some love? Only if you love it of course, it could be your act of kindness today.

Whilst I've got you though, let me tell you about some research I saw recently. It showed that micro interactions with strangers benefited both the participant in the study and the strangers alike, even when the participants believed the other people would react badly to the attempt.

Isn't that amazing? Micro interactions of kindness with strangers made both parties feel more connected, safe and happy.

So go spread that love, you'll feel better for it. Ask someone how their day is going, talk about the weather, share a random fact about yourself with a stranger (not your passwords though, obvs.)

Or, if you're in the mood for a small act of kindness, just like this post. It really would make my day.

Most leaders want their teams to feel calm, confident and capable — but few realise that it starts with their own nervous system.

When you walk into a room, your team doesn’t just hear your words — they feel your state. Stress, urgency and frustration ripple through a group just as quickly as calm and safety do.

Learning to regulate your own nervous system is one of the most powerful leadership skills you can develop.

When you regulate first, you lead better — and your team performs at its best.

Huge Congratulations to the team, led by Naoko, who put together this winning project.

Everyone had great fun and although there was only one name on the award, it was actually a team of people who came together and made it possible.

Naoko - thank you for bringing this idea to life!

Congratulations everyone!

We often treat self-care like it’s something we do —
a bath, a walk, a massage.
And while those things help, they only reach the surface.
True self-care is nervous system care.
It’s learning to notice when you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or shut down —
and doing what helps your body return to a sense of safety.
That might look like setting a boundary.
Leaving a draining relationship.
Resting before your body forces you to.
Or remembering what actually matters to you.

Because when your nervous system feels safe, you feel like yourself again.

💬 If your nervous system has been running on empty, it’s time to reconnect.

This Halloween, lift the veil between who you are and who you’re becoming.

Therapy isn’t about fixing what’s broken — it’s about discovering what’s waiting to grow.

If you’ve been feeling like parts of you are hidden or out of reach, maybe it’s time to step through and see what’s on the other side. 🌙

Healthy relationships start with regulated nervous systems, not perfect communication.

When we feel safe, we naturally become kinder, more curious, and more able to hear each other. 💛
