💜🌈 Wear It Purple Day 2025 🌈💜
Theme: Bold Voices, Bright Futures

Being bold isn’t always about being the loudest voice — it’s about creating safe spaces where LGBTQIA+ young people feel seen, supported and celebrated. 💜

📊 The reality:

75% of rainbow youth experience bullying, most at school

81% report high psychological distress

70% of trans & gender-diverse youth experience mental ill-health

Behind these numbers are real young people who deserve not just to survive — but to thrive.

On Friday, 29 August, wear purple to show your support and help create a future where every young person can shine bright. 🌟

💼 It’s Fuel Your Future Friday!

Today we’re celebrating a journey of growth, resilience, and determination. 💪

Read on to discover how one of our amazing clients worked with the Work & Study team to overcome challenges, chase their goals, and achieve success. 🌟

Earlier this year, a 15-year-old young person joined the IPS program (Work and Study) at headspace Port Lincoln. At our first meeting, she appeared quite anxious and avoided eye contact. However, over time, as trust and rapport developed, she began to feel more comfortable and open during our sessions.

As we started exploring potential workplaces, she shared that there were some local businesses she didn’t feel comfortable applying to, as peers she had experienced school conflict with either worked or frequented those locations. Understandably, this limited where she felt confident applying. Despite these challenges, she persevered, and applied to a few workplaces, although we didn’t have immediate success.
A few months into the program, she took the initiative to independently apply for a role at a local fast-food business. We prepared for a mock interview late one Friday afternoon, and by our next session, she was thrilled to share that she had been offered the job!

However, the excitement was bittersweet. Not long before receiving the good news, she had found out that her family would be relocating to another town in the coming months. While she was proud of her achievement, there was visible disappointment in knowing she wouldn’t be able to stay in the role for long.
Together, we focused on the positives and explored the possibility of transferring her application to a store in the new location. We reached out to the recruitment team, who were incredibly supportive and helped fast-track her application to the manager at the new site.

Not long after, she reached out to say a heartfelt thank you, she had successfully secured the transfer!
This journey was a beautiful reminder of how resilience, initiative, and the right support can open doors, even when circumstances change.

It was a truly heartwarming outcome for both the young person and our team.

🖤💛❤️ National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 🖤💛❤️
Strong in Culture, Stronger Together

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and pride of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. We stand with them — proud of their culture, stories, kin, and community — all the elements that make them unique, strong, and the bright leaders of our future.

This year’s theme reminds us that when children are strong in culture, they grow strong in identity. And when identity is nurtured, it creates a powerful ripple effect for future generations.

Let’s continue to uplift our children by celebrating who they are and where they come from — because their culture is sacred, strong, and one of the greatest gifts they carry.

In case you missed it, we’ve made some important changes to our online and phone mental health services:
🕒 New eheadspace hours: Free support with a clinician is now available 3pm–10pm in your local time, when it’s needed most.

📅 Pre-book appointments: You can schedule webchat or phone sessions with eheadspace clinicians and peer workers. More appointments will be available in the coming months!

💬 Online Communities refresh: Group chats for young people and adults supporting young people (including family, carers, educators and more) are back this week, with changed topics and an updated schedule aligned to school terms.

💻 Expanded support for binge eating: Brief Binge Eating eTherapy for young people aged 16-25 now also includes the option of accessing free, weekly online support with a headspace clinician.

Today we wore our pyjamas to work, Cozy vibes only!

We joined in the fun of Pyjama Day a national event that brings people together and supports kids in care through The Pyjama Foundation!

Not only did we get to stay cosy all day, but we also helped raise awareness and funds to create lifelong change for children in foster care ❤️
