💼 It’s Fuel Your Future Friday!
Today we’re celebrating a journey of growth, resilience, and determination. 💪
Read on to discover how one of our amazing clients worked with the Work & Study team to overcome challenges, chase their goals, and achieve success. 🌟
Earlier this year, a 15-year-old young person joined the IPS program (Work and Study) at headspace Port Lincoln. At our first meeting, she appeared quite anxious and avoided eye contact. However, over time, as trust and rapport developed, she began to feel more comfortable and open during our sessions.
As we started exploring potential workplaces, she shared that there were some local businesses she didn’t feel comfortable applying to, as peers she had experienced school conflict with either worked or frequented those locations. Understandably, this limited where she felt confident applying. Despite these challenges, she persevered, and applied to a few workplaces, although we didn’t have immediate success.
A few months into the program, she took the initiative to independently apply for a role at a local fast-food business. We prepared for a mock interview late one Friday afternoon, and by our next session, she was thrilled to share that she had been offered the job!
However, the excitement was bittersweet. Not long before receiving the good news, she had found out that her family would be relocating to another town in the coming months. While she was proud of her achievement, there was visible disappointment in knowing she wouldn’t be able to stay in the role for long.
Together, we focused on the positives and explored the possibility of transferring her application to a store in the new location. We reached out to the recruitment team, who were incredibly supportive and helped fast-track her application to the manager at the new site.
Not long after, she reached out to say a heartfelt thank you, she had successfully secured the transfer!
This journey was a beautiful reminder of how resilience, initiative, and the right support can open doors, even when circumstances change.
It was a truly heartwarming outcome for both the young person and our team.
