Saturday spent well doing colposcopies 🔬

If you have an abnormal cervical screening test (CST) aka Pap test it’s the next step to make sure everything is okay. A speculum is put in the va**na to have a look at the cervix with the colposcope (like a big microscope with a light - it doesn’t go in the va**na!) Two different fluids are put on the cervix to help highlight any abnormal areas, and a biopsy is collected if required.

If high-grade abnormal cells are picked up, you may need treatment in hospital with a day procedure called a LLETZ (aka loop diathermy) or cone biopsy to remove the abnormal area. The aim of this procedure is to prevent the abnormal cells from turning into cancer.

If you’re due, make sure to get your CST with your GP (previously known as Pap test/smear). It’s now a self-collected va**nal swab looking for the HPV virus and is such an important test to prevent cancer of the cervix.
