๐Ÿ’ง The Benefits of Warm Water Therapy During Labour ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒŠ

During labour, warm water can be a game-changer in managing discomfort and promoting relaxation. Hereโ€™s why it's highly recommended:

Pain Relief and Relaxation ๐ŸŒŸ
Warm water helps to soothe muscle tension and reduce pain by stimulating the release of endorphins, your body's natural pain relievers. This relaxation can make contractions more manageable and lessen overall stress.

Increased Comfort and Mobility ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ
Whether you opt for a warm bath or use a handheld shower, being immersed in or having water cascading over your body can provide weightlessness. This buoyancy reduces the pressure on your joints and allows for easier movement and position changes, which can aid in labour progression.

Natural Stress Reduction ๐ŸŒฟ
The calming nature of warm water can lower adrenaline levels, promoting a more relaxed labour environment. This reduction in stress hormones may lead to smoother contractions and a more positive birth experience overall.

Improved Circulation and Oxygen Flow ๐Ÿ’ซ
Warm water helps dilate blood vessels, improving blood flow and oxygen delivery to both you and your baby. This enhanced circulation can support uterine contractions and foetal well-being during labour.

How to Incorporate Warm Water Therapy ๐Ÿ›
Warm Baths: Relax in a tub filled with comfortably warm water.
Shower Therapy: Direct warm water over your back or abdomen during contractions.
Hydrotherapy Pools: Some birthing centres offer specialized pools designed for labour, providing a supportive environment for water immersion.

Did you use the water to help you through labour?

Alright ladies.... let's get REAL!

Having worked in this field solely for many years I want to be real and raw about perineal tearing!

Yes, perineal tearing happens - but it's not something we need to be fearful of!
80% of first time mothers will sustain a perineal tear/trauma and that's OKAY!

It's OKAY to tear!
It's OKAY to sustain a 2nd degree tear
It's OKAY to have an episiotomy
It's even OKAY to tear 3rd & 4th (though its not ideal)
You're going to be OKAY!

They way I describe perineal tearing to my pregnant women is:
'Lets say you've done MINIMAL training for a marathon (yep you're going to run 42km with no training) - if you wake up and put your joggers on and start running you know for a fact that you may sustain an injury; you may pull a muscle, tear a calf, cramp up so bad you fall to the ground, maybe even collapse due to being underprepared.... now think the same way about Birth!

or...

You're about to play contact sport for the first time in a very long time, maybe you've done a bit of training, but you've never competed. Well there is a real risk the minute you step into that court, field, arena that you may injure yourself.... now think the same way about Birth!

It's OKAY
You'll be OKAY
We can rehabilitate these tears!

WWB came to life after the birth of my two daughters, I remember quite vividly looking at a pregnancy/postpartum consumables website, and being inundated with the number of products that all 'claim' to do the same thing, but all had different ingredients, uses and protocols to follow.

I love evidence and research and this is what has led to some amazing health innovations, medications, surgical techniques and medications we know and use today. However, I kept saying 'Why isn't this happening with products that are so crucial to our postpartum healing?'.

When you look at brands and who they've been developed by, they are often individuals with zero health professional background and aren't managing postpartum recovery day to day.

I set out with a team of individuals who work with postpartum women on the reg! We're the ones on the maternity wards, birthing women, seeing you for your pelvic floor, c-section wound care, abdominal separation, ni**le damage and so much more. So we scoured the journal databases, looked for common themes and where there was significant evidence for products..... one year later we made it a reality.

Welcome to WWB - our products are designed & backed by research and used daily by us!

๐ŸŒŸ Getting Ready for Labour: What You Might Be Hooked Up To ๐ŸŒŸ

As you prepare for the incredible journey of bringing your little one into the world, you might be wondering about all the gadgets and gizmos that could be involved during labour. Here's a quick rundown of what you might be hooked up to in the delivery room:

CTG (Cardiotocography) ๐ŸŽง - This monitors your baby's heartbeat and your contractions to make sure everything is going smoothly.

IV Fluids ๐Ÿ’ง - Staying hydrated is super important! You might have a drip to keep your fluid levels up.

Antibiotics ๐Ÿ’Š - If needed, these can help prevent any infections, especially if your water has broken early.

Epidural ๐ŸŒˆ - Thinking about pain relief? An epidural can help manage pain and make you more comfortable during labour.

Oxytocin Drip ๐Ÿ’ช - Sometimes, a little boost is needed to get those contractions going or to keep them strong and steady.

Remember, every birth experience is unique, and your medical team will be there to support you every step of the way. Trust your body, trust your team, and get ready to meet your baby! ๐Ÿ’–

Stretch marks, or striae gravidarum, are common during pregnancy and can appear as reddish, purple, or silvery streaks on the skin. They occur when the skin is stretched rapidly, leading to tearing of the dermis.

So can we prevent them? Here's the latest evidence....

It is well known within the health industry working with women that incontinence is becoming more and more prevalent within society. A lot of the time, we hide away and not speak up about these pesky leaks - we need to change. we need to encourage women to speak up. As the generations come through we have seen a shift from 'suffer in silence' and 'its normal' to open discussions being had to help break the stigma.

Lets continue to talk about these things amongst ourselves to reduce the stigma.

Embracing mobility during childbirth can enhance your comfort and help labor progress smoothly, even if you're hooked up to machines, IVs, and monitors. Here are some tips to stay mobile and empowered during this journey:

๐—จ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜€: Sitting on a birthing ball or gently bouncing on it can alleviate pressure and encourage baby's descent. It's a great way to stay mobile while being monitored.

๐—ง๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐——๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€: Don't hesitate to explore various positions like standing, leaning on a partner or support, or kneeling. These positions can relieve discomfort and promote optimal baby positioning.

๐—จ๐˜๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—˜๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜: If available, consider using a mobile fetal monitor or wireless monitoring devices. These allow you to move around more freely without compromising the monitoring of you and your baby's well-being.

๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ด๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ๐˜€: Short walks around the room or down the hallway can help ease tension and encourage circulation. They also provide a change of scenery, which can be refreshing during labor.

๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜…๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ป๐—ถ๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€: Incorporate deep breathing, visualisation, or mindfulness exercises to stay calm and focused. These techniques can help manage pain and enhance your mobility.

Discuss your desire for mobility with your healthcare providers. They can work with you to find ways to maintain mobility while ensuring the necessary monitoring and care are in place.

Remember, every birth is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Trust your instincts, listen to your body, and advocate for the birth experience you envision
