Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world — but most skin cancers can be prevented with simple daily habits and early detection.

This week is a reminder to:
✔️ Protect your skin every day with SPF 30+ or higher
✔️ Cover up with clothing, hats and sunglasses
✔️ Seek shade, especially between 10am–3pm
✔️ Avoid tanning and solarium use
✔️ Check your skin regularly for new or changing spots
✔️ Book a professional skin check if you notice anything that looks different, changing, or not healing

Early detection saves lives.
If you have concerns about a spot, mole or patch of skin, please seek medical advice. Our team is here to support you with professional skin assessments and guidance.

Dr Rhys Van Der Rijt is one of Port Skin Clinic’s renowned plastic surgeons operating out of both Sydney and Port Macquarie practices.
Rhys grew up in Wagga Wagga, NSW and during the two thousands trained as a medical student in Port Macquarie through the University of New South Wales Rural Clinical School. As such, he has always had an affinity to regional and rural living and is accustomed to some of the unique challenges that patients have when seeking specialist care in these areas.
