Ember is a 9 year old female Labrador who currently volunteers as a Therapy Dog and is working as a crisis response dog for Fire Rescue Victoria

First I would like to thank everyone for the lovely messages of support after Ember’s passing. It is going to take time to adjust as Ember was such a big part of my life but I do have some help.

I thought it was time to introduce my new puppy Nero. The original plan was for Ember to help me train the new puppy and get him settled into home life and fire brigade activities. Unfortunately this didn’t happen so it’s just me and Nero to continue the adventures.

Now that Ember has paved the way for crisis response dogs it’s time for Nero to continue the work. 🐶

I am going to leave Ember’s social media accounts open for everyone to view but I invite you all to follow Nero’s account as we move to the next chapter.

It is with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes that I just wanted everyone to know that after a week of fighting illness Ember passed away this morning at 1.10am at the vet hospital. RIP 🌈 8/8/2015 - 9/5/2025

I would very much like to thank all the vet staff at Essendon Fields who looked after Ember during this difficult time.

I would also like to thank all Embers followers who shared funny comments, celebrated our wins, laughed with us and donated to our fundraising efforts.

As you can appreciate this is devastating for me and I will be taking a break from social media for now.

Rest easy Ember, you will be missed but I thank you for the time we had together

Ember update:
Today Ember needed a blood transfusion as her numbers were low but she is doing much better tonight. The vet is going to do some scans tomorrow as an early ultrasound found an abnormality in her abdominal cavity. Ember is staying another night in the ICU and the nurses have assured me she will get plenty of pats and cuddles tonight.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have better news.

Also, I would like to give a huge shout out to the staff and management for all their assistance while Ember has been unwell.

“Hi everyone, just a quick message to let everyone know that on Monday the hooman had to take me to the vet hospital in Essendon as l was really sick with gastro. I’m still at the hospital today and they are taking good care of me. I’m feeling much better today and hopefully I will be able to get back to work soon. I seem to be having some really bad luck with my health lately but hopefully this is the last of it. I will make sure the hooman keeps everyone updated!!” 🐶😬
