I snapped these this morning when I thought today was going to be sunny. Note to self - check the weather forecast. The last photo is how the day ended up. Oh well, it's good for the tanks. 🌧

It's been a busy week for home visits. I've been all over the South West, encountering smoke and rain and gorgeous sunsets. I did get held up by some stray cows on Tuesday - which made me smile to think how different my life is from when I worked in the city. I love being able to bring this service to local families. Rural mums deserve the same access to care!

I've been a bit quiet on here the past couple of weeks, as I've had to do lot of travelling for my GP teaching job. This week is much more 'normal', which is nice.

I'm back from leave now, and clinic appointments are booked out for a few weeks. If you need to see me sooner, the best way is to contact me for a home visit - I've had a spot open up this week. I promise I will always do my best to get to you as soon as I can. 🩷

Well that time went way too fast! I'm back in clinic today, and have reopened the booking portal for home visits at drdeborahcarrington.com.

The clinic appointment book has filled up, so if you are needing more urgent postnatal or breastfeeding help, please contact me for a home visit. If you are wanting a tongue tie release, Dr Greg Howe is also available and can usually see you quicker for the procedure.

I'll have limited availability next week as I have to travel to Melbourne for RACGP meetings, so please reach out soon if you think you'll need support. ❤️

I am taking some time off for the next three weeks to recharge my batteries, spend time with the kids and sort out my wild veggie garden. It will be nice to swap my 🩺 for 🪏 for a bit. I will post pictures of my garden once it looks less feral. Please pray for some sunshine for me. 🌞🌱👩‍🌾

I have put pause on home visit bookings, but will reopen these when I return at the end of September. You can still call Active Health to book in for clinic appointments for after I return. If you think you'll need support or are due for a six week check, I would recommend booking early.

If you need a tongue tie release, Dr Greg Howe at Active Health Portland or Dr Zoe Baudinette at Seaview Medical in Warrnambool are trained in the procedure.

For breastfeeding support, you can seek support from:
- Warrnambool Breastfeeding Centre
- South West Healthcare Infant Feeding Clinic
- Care Lactation
- LCs at the Koroit branch of Port Fairy Medical
- Maternal and Child Health Services Portland and Surrounds

It was a real treat to have Ruby sit in with me today. Ruby is a student midwife in Hamilton Western District Health Service and is training to be an IBCLC. She is sitting in on a few clinics with me to contribute to her breastfeeding training. How exciting that Hamilton will have a local lactation consultant in the near future! 🤱🤰🏻❤️

I've had a late cancellation and have a double appointment available tomorrow at 10am, if anyone needs one. I am going on annual leave soon, so the next available after this is 29th September. 🩷

It's week two of 'Secret Thoughts of Mothers', and this is an important one to normalise. Becoming a parent is a huge, beautiful, miraculous life change, and all big changes involve some elements of grief.

All major life transitions - even the joyous ones - mean the end of something. Moving house, graduating, getting married, starting a new job - all will come with some grief as you say goodbye to an old chapter and open the door to a new one.

In becoming a parent, you are saying goodbye to some of your old life. You will never be the same again. Even when this is a planned, wanted baby, the adjustment is huge.

Let the tears flow. Let the waves of sadness pass. There will be so much joy to take it's place, but be gentle to yourself whilst you integrate this new experience. ❤️
