The faxitron machine is an intra-operative xray machine that takes xray of the surgical specimen to allow the surgeon a quick assessment to ensure the tumour they aim to remove has been removed accurately.

Many tumours these days are diagnosed in their early stages and are often impalpable. Surgeons can use different localization techniques eg Hook-wires, ROL (radio-occult guided), Scout, Magseed , Iodine seed etc with the aim to remove the tumour (with the localizer) at the time of surgery.

Accurate surgery is important as it means less re-excisional surgery, less need for a mastectomy and higher chance of breast conserving surgery.

Not all tumors are visible on xrays, but seeing the clip used in the initial core biopsy sampling is also a good indicator that the lesion has been removed.

Hope this helps everyone to understand a bit of what us breast surgeons do 😊

And that’s a wrap for 2024! Forever grateful at this time of year to receive kindness from others but not taking it for granted for those who needs kindness as they battle their cancer diagnosis during this time. Remember, you are never alone. Grateful also for colleagues who are also making a difference for these patients at this time.

Wish everyone a safe and wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Look forward to a new year in 2025! ❤️🎄🌟🎆

The colour pink symbolizes Love, Nurture & Compassion. For many breast cancer survivors, it is also a colour of Healing, Awareness, Hope and Strength.

In times of uncertainty, fears and hopelessness, let’s bring some Pink into our lives and to those around us. We may just make a world of difference. 💕

Women makes up half the world’s population.
Yet the conversations about women and their abilities often revolve around their capacity, the inability to ‘have it all’, and perhaps girls ‘just don’t get it’. These limiting words are spoken as part of history because of our upbringing, culture, religion, schools and society’s expectation.

We need to embrace equity. The equal opportunity to choose, learn & succeed. Let’s work together with the men in our world and embrace this partnership.

Happy International Women’s Day~ ❤️

‘Tis the season to be jolly~!
There’s a sense of freshness and vitality this year. Everywhere is busy again! And as we end the year counting the many blessings shared with colleagues, patients and staff, we remember that kindness is the greatest gift of all.

“To kindness and love, the things we need most!” - Grinch 💚

Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🌟

Just came back from a breast conference which was postponed for the last two years.

Great to hear a consistent focus to de-escalate treatment, tailoring treatment plans to patient’s tumour biology and increasing ability to offer oncoplastic breast surgery and onco-breast reduction (mammoplasty) techniques allowing women to conserve their breasts.

It’s October and it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. A reminder to us all to speak to your GP or specialist about your breast health. 🎀

‘The flower that follows the sun does so even on cloudy days’- anonymous

Very touched to be receiving such beautiful blooms from patients whom never ceases to amaze me for their positivity, selflessness and gratefulness despite the tests they endure from having a cancer diagnosis to treatment. It is so humbling and inspiring that they want to make someone else’s world brighter too.

Lets remind ourselves to pass on a bright bloom to someone even on cloudy days… 🌹

A momentous occasion indeed. Vaccinated against covid-19 as of today.

Vaccines have eliminated polio and smallpox, and protected us & our children against tetanus, rubella, hepatitis B, haemophilus influenza b, diphtheria, measles, mumps, pertussis, pneumococcal, meningococcal, influenza and rotaviruses. It does so by teaching our natural immune system a memory of how to combat these diseases if our body ever needs to deal with it again so we don’t fall extremely ill. It is amazing what our body can do and how science can help it along.

“The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well”. - Hippocrates

Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year.

As the year draws to an unexpected end, it allows time for reflection and opportunity to say Thanks and be grateful for the good things that still surrounds us.

Wish everyone a safe holiday season~!
