You’re not “old”… but your health is changing.

The 45-49 Health Check is designed to catch risks early, before they turn into something more serious.

Because this is the stage where conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure can begin to develop quietly.

This check is simple, but powerful.

It can help you:
✔ Understand your current health risks
✔ Detect early signs of chronic conditions
✔ Put a plan in place before problems escalate

Most people wait until symptoms show up.

This is your chance to get ahead of them.

Many serious health conditions develop gradually, often without obvious symptoms in the early stages.

Annual health checks allow your GP to assess risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar, and lifestyle habits before they develop into more serious concerns.

These check-ups also provide an opportunity to discuss preventative screening relevant to your age and medical history.

Preventative care is one of the most effective ways to protect long-term health.

Perimenopause is the natural transition leading up to menopause, but many women don’t realise their symptoms may be hormone related.

Changes such as irregular periods, sleep disruption, mood changes, fatigue, and hot flushes can begin years before menopause itself.

Because symptoms can vary widely, personalised medical advice is important.

At High Street Medical Clinic, our GPs support women through this stage with education, symptom management strategies, and individualised care plans.

Understanding what’s happening in your body can make this transition far easier to navigate.

Purple Day is a global initiative dedicated to increasing awareness of epilepsy and supporting those living with the condition.

Epilepsy affects around 250,000 Australians and occurs when abnormal electrical activity in the brain causes seizures.

With appropriate medical care, many people with epilepsy are able to manage their condition and live full, active lives.

Raising awareness helps reduce stigma and encourages better understanding within the community.

Osteoporosis is often called the “silent disease” because bone loss happens gradually and usually without symptoms until a fracture occurs.

In Australia, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime. The good news is that early assessment and preventative care can significantly reduce this risk.

Risk factors may include:
✔ Age over 50
✔ Early menopause
✔ Family history of osteoporosis
✔ Low calcium or vitamin D levels
✔ Long-term steroid use
✔ Smoking or low body weight

Your GP can assess your individual risk, discuss lifestyle strategies to protect bone strength, and arrange further investigations such as bone density testing if needed.

Looking after your bone health today can help maintain mobility, independence, and quality of life as you age.

Happiness is often seen as an emotion, but it’s closely linked to physical and mental wellbeing.

The International Day of Happiness recognises that factors such as connection, purpose, good health, and emotional balance all contribute to a fulfilling life.

Taking care of your health, managing stress, staying active, and maintaining supportive relationships are all important parts of building resilience and wellbeing.

At High Street Medical Clinic, our GPs understand that health is more than treating illness, it’s about supporting your overall wellbeing.

Small positive changes can have a powerful long-term impact.

After months of strong summer sun, it’s a good time to check in on your skin.

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve outcomes.

New spots, changes in moles, or areas that itch, bleed, or don’t heal properly should always be reviewed.

Professional skin checks help identify concerns early and provide reassurance when everything looks healthy.

Stress affects everyone differently, but early signs can sometimes be overlooked.

Difficulty concentrating, sleep disruption, irritability, headaches, and persistent fatigue are common indicators that your body may be under prolonged pressure.

When stress continues over time, it can affect both physical and mental health.

Speaking with your GP can help identify contributing factors and explore practical strategies to improve balance and wellbeing.

Your brain is responsible for everything from memory and concentration to mood and movement.

Brain Awareness Week highlights the importance of understanding how the brain works and how lifestyle factors can support long-term brain health.

Research shows that regular physical activity, quality sleep, balanced nutrition, and mental stimulation can all contribute to maintaining cognitive function as we age.

If you’ve noticed persistent changes in memory, concentration, mood, or coordination, it’s worth discussing with your GP. Early conversations can help identify potential causes and guide appropriate care.

Looking after your brain today helps protect your wellbeing for the future.

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies among women.

Symptoms may include fatigue, dizziness, headaches, difficulty concentrating, or shortness of breath.

Common causes include heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy, dietary factors, or underlying health conditions.

If symptoms persist, a GP consultation and simple blood test can help identify whether iron levels may be contributing.

At High Street Medical Clinic, our GPs provide assessment and treatment options tailored to your individual needs.
