From July 1, the Home Care Package (HCP) subsidies have increased 2.2% for all levels:

✨ Level 1: $29.95

✨ Level 2: $52.67

✨ Level 3: $114.65

✨ Level 4: $173.81

The Support at Home (SAH) program was expected to be released on July 1, however has been delayed until November 1.

There have been updates to other subsidies, such as the Dementia and cognition and Veterans’ supplement, Oxygen and Enteral feeding supplements, Residential Aged Care Subsidies and Supplements and respite supplement. June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. This month highlights the global objective to raise awareness and educate people about the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Identifying Alzheimer’s early connects people with the treatments and support networks they need urgently.

Key Alzheimer’s symptoms to watch for:
✨ Memory loss, especially recent events
✨ Difficulty performing daily tasks or coordinating activities
✨ Language challenges, like trouble finding words
✨ Disorientation in time or place
✨ Organisation problems, misplacing items, or loss of interest in hobbies

We encourage consultation with doctors, geriatric specialists, or neurologists for medical assessment, diagnosis, and tailored management.

The Australian Government has announced that the new Aged Care Act 2024 and Support at Home (SAH) program will now start on 1 November 2025, instead of 1 July.

Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, Sam Rae MP, said the change follows feedback from older Australians, families, carers, and aged care workers. The extra time will help everyone better understand the changes and prepare for what’s ahead.
The new Act will strengthen the rights of older people and improve care quality. It includes clear guidelines for how aged care providers and workers must act.

People receiving care through Home Care Packages and Short-Term Restorative Care will continue receiving services until Support at Home is rolled is officially rolled out.

We're excited to welcome Lynn to the Gratitude In-home Care team as our new Clinical Care Coordinator!

As a registered nurse, Aslin brings extensive nursing experience. She has excelled in delivering compassionate, participant-centered care, as well as in care coordination, clinical assessments, and supporting diverse patient needs.

In her new role, Aslin will support both self-managed and provider-managed clients across Australia. This role will involve developing individualised care plans, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring each client receives high-quality, tailored support.

Starting 1 July 2025, the Support at Home program will offer 8 funding levels (called classifications). Each classification provides a quarterly budget (received every three months), which adds up to an annual amount.

Budgets are paid every 3 months and cover approved in-home services.

Unused funds—up to $1,000 or 10% of your quarterly budget will rollover (whichever is greater) to use later! However, any amount beyond this limit will not be carried over.

With a self-managed package, you’re in full control. You decide who provides your care, how it’s delivered, and when. You can choose your own care workers or use any provider that aligns with your needs — even those not on your provider’s network. Plus, you manage your own budget, approve invoices, and often benefit from lower admin fees, meaning more of your funding goes directly to your care.

Self-managing gives you the flexibility to hire your own staff, negotiate rates, and customise services to fit your daily routine. But it also comes with more responsibility — you’ll need to handle paperwork, payments, and compliance yourself, or find someone to help you do it.

On the other hand, a provider-managed package takes the weight off your shoulders. Your provider coordinates services, manages your budget, hires staff, and takes care of all the admin and compliance. It’s ideal if you prefer a hands-off approach and want professional support every step of the way — though keep in mind, this comes with higher fees and less flexibility in who delivers your care.

From 1 July 2025, the government is launching the Support at Home (SAH) program which is a major overhaul of the current Home Care Package system.

Key changes include:
✅ All-in-one pricing – admin, care management & travel bundled into service cost
✅ Care management capped at 10% of your budget
✅ No separate package management fees
✅ Unused funds will roll over – up to $1,000 or 10% of your budget
✅ Separate funding for equipment, aids & home modifications
✅ Price caps for services coming in July 2026

Fully self-managed home care services like those offered by Gratitude, give clients the freedom to take control of their own care while still getting support with the important stuff behind the scenes.

Here’s how it works:
✨ You’re in charge: With a fully self-managed package, you organise your own support workers, contractors, and allied health professionals. This gives you full flexibility to choose who supports you and when.

✨ Low admin fees: Gratitude only charges a 15% admin fee of your home care package subsidy. This is much lower than traditional providers, meaning more of your funding goes directly to your care.

✨ Big savings, more care: If you're on a Level 4 package, you could save up to $12,415 per year or get up to 250 extra hours of care annually compared to higher-fee options.

Understanding Home Care Fees: Basic Daily & Means-Tested Care Fee

When receiving Home Care Packages, you may be asked to pay a Basic Daily Fee. From 20 March 2025, fees range from $11.77 (Level 1) to $13.14 (Level 4) per day. At Gratitude In-Home Care, we don’t charge this fee, giving clients more support for their Home Care Package.

In residential aged care, everyone pays a Basic Daily Fee of up to $63.82 per day.

The Income-Tested Care Fee applies if your income exceeds set thresholds, up to $37.70 per day. The government also has annual and lifetime caps for this fee: $34,311.23 per year and $82,347.13 lifetime.
