We are proud to share a testimonial from the Support Coordinator and Jenny, the mother of the three participants who recently transitioned into this beautiful home in Sunshine. In this video, she reflects on her experience with I-Help Disability Services. Jenny shares how smooth and supportive the onboarding process was, why she trusted in iHDS, and how her children are settling into their new home.
In a period of one week, all three residents moved in gradually to ensure a smooth and comfortable SIL transition.

Today, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we observe Remembrance Day is a time to honour those who lost their lives serving Australia in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

It is a day for all Australians to reflect on the courage,
commitment, and sacrifice of our armed forces, past and present.

At 11am, we pause for one minute of silence to remember their bravery, their stories, and the legacy they leave behind.
Lest we forget.

We’re excited to share some highlights from the past week, where we supported three participants as they settled into their new home in Sunshine.

At I-Help Disability Services, we take a patient, person-centred approach to every transition into a new home. We ensure each individual has the time, support, and reassurance they need to adjust to their new environment and home. This thoughtful transition process continues to help our participants move in smoothly and confidently.

This journey represents a shift from living at home to living independently, where each individual gains greater choice, control, and confidence, while still being able to live together as a family.

We’re excited to share the successful move-in of our newest SIL participants at this beautiful home in Sunshine.

Over the week, all three residents have been moving in gradually to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition.

At I-Help Disability Services, we don't rush the move-in process. We take the time to ensure each participant feels settled, supported, and confident in their new home. This means carefully considering many factors such as changes in environment and supports alongside thorough staff training and a well-planned transition period.

Another big thank you to Rif and the family of the participants for their collaboration and ongoing support throughout this process.

A big congratulations to our Victorian team for their exceptional work in onboarding, training, and creating such a warm, welcoming environment.

Invisible Disabilities Week (19–25 October)

In Australia around 5.5 million people (21.4 % of the population) reported having a disability in 2022 and up to 80 % of people with a disability are estimated to have one that is not visible, meaning the person may appear “able” yet still require support.

I-Help Disability Services recognises the Sunflower as a symbol that someone may have an invisible/hidden or non-visible disability and may require a little extra help, patience or understanding. By recognising the Sunflower, we are proud to promote inclusivity, awareness and kindness, helping to create a community where everyone feels seen and supported.

By wearing the Sunflower lanyard, wristband or badge, an individual can discreetly signal that they have a hidden disability and may need a little extra help, patience or understanding.

SIL Participant Onboarding: Positive Behaviour Support Training

As part of the SIL onboarding process for participants moving into one of our Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes, a Positive Behaviour Support Training session was held with the participants’ current practitioners from Autism Abilities, Senior Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner Brooke Paton and Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner Janelle.

This education and training session provided our staff with a deeper understanding of the individuals they will be supporting, helping to ensure positive outcomes as the participants begin their journey with I-Help Disability Services.

At I-Help Disability Services, we don’t rush participants into SIL homes, we take the time to make sure they feel comfortable and receive the best possible support.

A big thank you to Brooke and Janelle from Autism Abilities for your collaboration, insights, and support in helping our team prepare for a smooth and positive onboarding process.
