πŸ“±πŸš« While social media has its benefits, it's crucial to recognise the potential risks for young children. Here's why early access to social media can be detrimental, with some stats:

βœ” Mental Health: Studies show that 1 in 4 Australian children experience mental health issues related to social media use.
βœ” Cyberbullying: Around 21% of Australian kids report being victims of online bullying.
βœ” Inappropriate Content: Young children may be exposed to age-inappropriate content, which can affect their development and understanding of the world.
βœ” Sleep Disruption: Excessive screen time, especially before bed, can lead to sleep problems. 60% of Australian kids use their devices in the hour before sleep, impacting their rest and overall health.

It's important to set boundaries and monitor your child's social media usage to protect their well-being.

πŸŒπŸ‘‚ Happy World Listening Day! Today, let's focus on truly hearing the voices that matter the mostβ€”our children. Active listening helps us understand their world better and build stronger connections.

Here are some tips to improve how we listen to our kids:

🌟 Give them your full attention: Put away distractions and make eye contact.
🌟 Validate their feelings: Show empathy and acknowledge their emotions.
🌟 Ask open-ended questions: Encourage them to share more about their thoughts and experiences.
🌟 Be patient and calm: Give them time to express themselves without interruption.

I truly believe it’s important to remember we are role-models for our younger generation.

I was raised in a blended (step) family since the age of 7 as both parents remarried. In that era, this was quite rare, and I felt very much alone and isolated from children my age. I believe this is quite common with most children who raised in blended families; therefore, this was where my passion began in child and youth counselling eight years ago. It is so essential for our children and youth to feel safe, secure, heard and respected during these or any traumatic experiences they may encounter in their life. Myself a mother of three daughters and grandmother, I truly believe it’s important to remember we are role-models for our younger generation.

I help children with:

  • Anxiety

  • Behavioural Problems
