📢 A great way to start the new year.

From today, the maximum PBS co-payment for general patients will be capped at $25 per script, making everyday medicines more affordable for millions of Australians.

This change is a meaningful step in easing cost-of-living pressures and helping people stay on track with the medicines they rely on for their health and wellbeing.

At TWC, we see firsthand how important affordable access to medicines is for our communities, and we’re proud to support initiatives that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Here’s to a healthier start to 2026 💚

Happy retirement Margaret 💚 After starting with Terry White Chemists nearly 40 years ago, she called time on her amazing career this week, farewelling customers and staff at TerryWhite Chemmart Goodna.

A chance meeting with Rhonda White, co-founder and wife of Terry, in 1987 resulted in Margaret’s first job at their pharmacy in Toowong. Her journey with the group has taken her to Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, back to Toowong, and finally Goodna.

Her vast knowledge and experience as a pharmacy assistant, retail manager and store manager have lifted the standard of every pharmacy she’s been part of, but it’s the customers she’ll miss the most.

“Just coming home from work every day knowing you’ve made a difference in their lives – it’s a great feeling,” she said.

“Terry and Rhonda instilled that in me back when I first started, and it’s a value that TerryWhite Chemmart still lives by today. The customer comes first – we’re there to make their lives more comfortable.

“I’m very honoured to have been given that chance back in 1987 and to have had such a fulfilling career.”

Dimitri, Pharmacist/Owner at Goodna, says Margaret’s career is a true testament to loyalty and passion for pharmacy.

“Margaret’s long-standing commitment to TerryWhite Chemmart and the communities she has served is nothing short of inspiring. Her dedication, knowledge, and care have made a lasting impact on both her colleagues and customers.”

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events at Bondi Beach on Sunday evening.

Our thoughts are with all those impacted, particularly the Jewish community, and with the residents and broader Bondi community at this difficult time.

We extend our sincere gratitude to NSW Police, ambulance services, surf lifesaving teams, and all first responders, as well as members of the public who acted with courage and care in the immediate aftermath.

At times like these, we acknowledge the profound impact such events can have and stand together with care, and compassion.

Molly McGuire and her team at TerryWhite Chemmart Wilsonton are setting the bar for community pharmacy.

The 2025 TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist of the Year says pharmacists will play an increasingly central role in healthcare, particularly with the adoption of full-scope practice allowing them to prescribe, advise, intervene, and work closely with primary care.

“We’re part of the frontline health system, and patients are recognising that.”

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia featured Molly in the latest edition of Australasian Pharmacy magazine. Read the full article here 👉 https://bit.ly/molly-mcguire-australasianpharmacy

SPF has been a hot topic since the report from consumer group Choice earlier this year finding a number of sunscreens were not providing the protection they claim on their packaging.

While the fallout from this report and the subsequent investigation by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is ongoing, one thing is for certain: rigorous testing of SPF levels is a good thing. Though these findings have raised questions on how that testing occurs, and more broadly on what SPF actually is.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It refers to how much protection a sunscreen provides from Ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, which are most likely to cause sunburn and skin cancer.

The SPF rating indicates how much UVB is blocked from reaching the skin (understanding no sunscreen can ever block 100% of UV rays). SPF50 should allow only around 1/50th of UVB to reach the skin, equal to 2%, meaning it blocks 98% of UVB radiation. SPF30 should allow only 1/30th (3.3%), meaning it blocks around 96.7%, and so on.

It’s important to remember that SPF testing is carried out in laboratories under controlled settings, where sunscreen is liberally applied to a small area of skin which is then exposed to simulated UV light, with results over time compared to unprotected areas of skin.

In reality, a lot of people don’t apply enough sunscreen, miss patches over their body, or don’t wait long enough for it to soak in before sun exposure. Even the best sunscreen won’t be very effective unless applied properly and reapplied every two hours (or after swimming or sweating).

You should also ask your TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist about the right sunscreen to suit you and your family, including SPF ratings, water resistance, sport suitability, finish types, and lotion vs spray vs roll-on.

And remember, while it’s important to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 (ideally 50+), slopping that on is only one part of sun protection. Don’t forget to slip on protective clothing, slap on a wide-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses 😎

Taking the right precautions and not relying on sunscreen alone is the best way to enjoy our beautiful Aussie summers while staying sun smart!

Last year, Australia recorded over 57,000 cases of whooping cough (pertussis) – the most since reporting began in 1991, and significantly more than the previous record of 38,000.

That upward trend is continuing this year, with Australia battling an ongoing whooping cough epidemic.

Tomorrow is Whooping Cough Day, an initiative from Immunisation Foundation of Australia to highlight the importance of staying up to date with vaccinations to protect you and your loved ones 💚
