What an exciting and fun-filled first Game Fest group activity for our amazing young adults at Time zone TTP! 🎮

Everyone had the opportunity to connect, socialize, and enjoy themselves in a relaxed and supportive environment. The day allowed participants to unwind, build friendships, strengthen relationships, and learn from one another while developing important social skills.

The feedback from these incredible young people was heartwarming, they’re already looking forward to their next adventure, and so are we at Nexus! These group activities are so valuable, giving young adults the chance to truly connect, build confidence, and create meaningful friendships. As one participant said, “friendships that will last a lifetime.”

A big thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the day with their mentors. We can’t wait to bring you more fun and interactive activities.

Stay tuned for the next group activity… the “Power of Fun” is just getting started! 🎉

If you know someone who may be interested in fun and interactive group activities, feel free to get in touch with the Nexus Team for more details.

Exciting Launch at Nexus Disability Support Services! 🎉

This afternoon at Nexus Disability Support Services, we were thrilled to officially launch our Gamefest Holiday Activity Fun program!

It’s been incredible to see our teen participants already having such a fantastic time, supported by an amazing mentor who is helping make the day truly special. When I called to check in, all I could hear was laughter, excitement, and pure joy - exactly what this program is all about.

Creating inclusive, engaging, and fun opportunities for young people is at the heart of what we do, and today was a beautiful reminder of the impact these moments can have.

📸 Stay tuned - we’ll be sharing photos soon!

We’re also excited to announce that more group activities are on the way, with our next session already filling up fast and a great lineup of participants ready to go.

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. It affects how people experience, interact with, and relate to the world around them. Autism affects people differently – which is why there’s a common saying: “If you’ve met one Autistic person, you’ve met one Autistic person.”

Autistic people have different experiences and need different levels of support.

There are many misunderstandings about autism that can be harmful, and these can make it harder for Autistic people to access the support they need.

Here are some facts about autism that are often misunderstood:
🧠 Most Autistic people want to make friends, though some may find this difficult.
🧠 Autistic people experience the same range of emotions as other people, they may just express them differently.
🧠 Autism is defined by differences in social communication and behaviours, not intelligence. Intellectual disability or high intelligence may co occur with autism.
🧠 There is no cure for autism, but Autistic people can develop skills for life with the right support.

Autistic people have great strengths which should be celebrated. These include:
🧠 Noticing patterns, details, or inconsistencies that others may miss.
🧠 Deep focus and persistence, particularly when working on areas of interest.
🧠 Honesty, integrity, and direct communication, which can support trust and clarity in relationships.
