Floating Solo - McCrae Foreshore
334
Congratulations Monique Carroll
We relocated to the Mornington Peninsula 7 years ago. Surrounded by nature and all it has to offer on a
daily basis has been an absolute blessing for many reasons. We frequent the back beaches, the hills the
surrounding foreshores and enjoying our very own sea life aquarium.
McCrae Lighthouse has a sentimental meaning to us therefore we visit there quite often taking a walk
on McCrae foreshore . This is where I captured the moment on camera and it became one of my
favourite photos for a couple of reasons. It was un uplifting beautiful site as we sat on the sand relaxing
on a gorgeous day.
I took the photo as I wanted to capture the visual depiction of what I perceived beyond the beautiful
backdrop. Something that hits close to home for many of us.
My analogy of this photo representing people:
The Catamaran is gracefully and confidently floating into the deeper waters. Surrounded by beauty and
calmness, not a care in the world. Everything moves with ease.
The Dingy is surrounded by the same beauty yet feels small and left behind, it seems safer in the
shallows. A sense of emptiness, insecurity, sadness and fear. Longing to be free of those feelings and to
float effortlessly side by side with its peer.
What flows so easily for some is only a dream to others. The importance of Inclusion, compassion,
understanding, acceptance, reaching out and turning up .
We need to see the beauty in everything and everyone everyday.
That is the profound back story of my photo
