🧠✨ The moment everything connected about mental health & nutrition

My conversation with mental fitness coach revealed something profound: what we eat doesn't just fuel our bodies—it literally shapes our mental well-being.

🔬 The science is clear:
• Your gut produces 90% of your body's serotonin
• Processed foods can worsen ADHD symptoms
• Mitochondrial health directly impacts mental clarity
• The gut-brain axis influences mood, anxiety & focus

💡 Key takeaways from Part 3:
✓ Eliminate mitochondrial toxins (processed foods, excess sugar)
✓ Support your microbiome with 30+ plant foods weekly
✓ Include omega-3s, fermented foods & antioxidants
✓ Become a detective of your own well-being
This isn't about replacing traditional mental health care—it's about creating optimal conditions for your brain to thrive.

What's one nutritional change you could make today for better mental clarity? 👇

From hospital bed to deep dive: Part 3 of my story is live 🧠

After nearly slipping into a coma in March 2022, I made a decision that changed everything - I wasn't going back to "normal." Normal had almost killed me.

Instead, I dove deep into:
• Mental health at the cellular level
• The neuroscience of resilience
• Root causes of workplace toxicity
• How stress literally rewires our brains

This intense learning period led Mike and I to co-author "How to Lead with Purpose" - but more importantly, it prepared me for conversations I didn't even know I'd be having yet.

Part 3 reveals how my recovery became my education, and ends with a cliffhanger about a mysterious package from Portland, Oregon that would spark the Leading Our Own Way movement.

Hey my good people

I wanted to take a moment to share something close to my heart. This journey we've been on together—sharing stories of resilience, transformation, and authentic leadership—has been incredible. Every conversation, every vulnerable moment shared by our amazing guests, has reinforced why I started this podcast.

But here's where I could use your help.

I'm currently pushing toward a significant milestone: 10,000 listened/watch hours and growing our follower community across platforms. These aren't just numbers to me, they represent more people finding hope, inspiration, and practical tools for their own journeys.

When you follow Leading Our Own Way on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, you're not just supporting me. You're helping these powerful stories reach others who might be facing their own challenges right now. Someone struggling with their mental health, someone rebuilding after trauma, someone searching for the courage to walk their own way.

Every follow, every share, every minute listened creates ripples of impact we may never fully see.

If you've found value in these conversations, would you consider:

Following the podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts (even if you already listen on one platform)

Sharing your favourite episode with someone who might need to hear it

Leaving a quick review that might help someone else discover these stories

I'm excited to share my latest Substack article diving deeper into my recent conversation with Ashley Hillstead on the Leading Our Own Way podcast.

In this powerful episode, Ashley and I explore the fascinating connection between trauma, somatic healing, and the body's innate wisdom. As many of you know, my own journey through workplace bullying in 2015 fundamentally changed my relationship with my body and ultimately led to the creation of LOOW.

What I couldn't fit into our podcast conversation were the practical daily routines that have supported my healing journey, the specific somatic practices that transformed my recovery, and the deeper questions this work invites us all to consider.

On my Substack, I share:
• The morning ritual that reconnects me to my body daily
• How "surrender" became my unexpected strength
• Four reflection questions to deepen your own embodied awareness
• The exact breathwork technique that calms my nervous system

If you've ever experienced workplace stress, trauma, or simply feel disconnected from your body's wisdom, this deeper dive might offer some valuable insights.

Subscribe to my Substack for these extended conversations, behind-the-scenes reflections, and practical tools that don't make it into the podcast episodes. It's where the real integration happens.

What somatic practices have been most helpful in your healing journey? I'd love to hear your experiences in the comments.
