While we live in a time of awe-inspiring advancements in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment; many who seek cancer care hit barriers at every turn. Income, education, geographical location and discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and lifestyle are just a few of the factors that can negatively affect care.

We all have a role to play in reducing the impact of cancer. Let's

Learning about treatment plans on the back of a new cancer diagnosis can be a tough time for patients. The amount of information provided in lengthy education sessions often is too much to take in all at once.

In collaboration with patients, carers and cancer nurses; WCMICS have created a series of animated chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant education videos. Presented by 'nurse Joanne'; these short, snappy animations are designed to equip patients with accurate information, complimenting their education session with a nurse.

💻 Mycareplan.org.au expands to include three new cancer types now available

The Australian Cancer Survivorship Centre (ACSC) is pleased to announce the launch of the early-stage melanoma, uterine cancer (endometrial) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (diffuse large B-cell) survivorship care plans on mycareplan.org.au, now available for cancer survivors and carers, and health professionals.

A survivorship care plan includes a summary of a person’s cancer diagnosis and treatment, plans for follow-up, information about strategies to remain well and supportive care resources. It can support transition from the treatment to the post-treatment phase, providing a flexible communication tool for cancer survivors and health professionals to improve the delivery of care.

Visit mycareplan.org.au to create your free survivorship care plan or find out how this may help you.

Previously available for early-stage breast, bowel and prostate cancer, the expansion of mycareplan.org.au is part of a Victorian Government-funded project ‘Embed and spread optimal cancer survivorship care across Victoria’, which aims to increase awareness of and commitment to cancer survivorship care, including using survivorship care plans across the state.

The ACSC has worked closely with expert reference groups consisting of health professionals, NGOs, and consumers throughout the development phase, including content development and user testing and are grateful to these groups for their time and expertise.

📢 We excited to present the 2020-2021 WCMICS Annual Report.

It has been yet another year of challenges and resilience, with the pandemic impacting the way we live, work and care for our community. Across all of our organisations we have asked more from our people than perhaps ever before; adapting rapidly to the changing clinical environment to meet the needs of our patients and families and ensuring we continue to provide the safe, quality care and support they expect from us.

Despite these challenges, we have many achievements to celebrate. Our commitment in supporting the provison of the best cancer care for patients has continued to be at the forefront of everything we do.

"Our hospitals and our people, like the community we care for, have tested and reinforced our capabilities and resilence again this year, as these unprecedented events become the new-normal of how we live and work"
