Ayo-Ayo?! Come with us as we learn how to make Lana at Tahanan Studio (.studio ) on Saturday the 17th of August from 10am-2pm. Lana is a sacred healing (coconut) oil that our ancestors have used for generations in ritual, medicine, and cooking too! In this workshop, we’ll imbue our Lana with our intentions (Diwa, Spirit) and choose a selection of tanom/halaman/plant allies: Ginger (luy-a), Lemongrass (tanglad), Guava (bayabas), & Moringa (kamunggay/malunggay) as we move through the elements of pressing/pounding herbs (Yuta, Earth), milking/extracting coconut milk (Tubig, Water), cooking our herbs & coconut (Kalayo, Fire), and setting the medicinal oil (Hangin, Air).

In this interactive workshop we’ll share our ancestral knowledge of herbal medicine, plant allies, animism and Hilot (Filipinx Healing Modality) as we make Lana from scratch! There’s no need to have any experience in herbal medicine and you’ll be able to take home some Lana with you at the end of our workshop, as well as experience some ways our ancestors still use Lana in healing and ritual throughout the Archipelago. All that you need to bring is your own jar (200ml roughly) and we’ll handle the rest.

We're back!

Our June somatic practice circles look at rewiring our brain through movement practices, connecting to plant wisdom, and uncovering ancestral and animist ways of resourcing which are always present within our individual, collective, and historical bodies

These circles are an emergent process of inquiry into our personal and collective ways of being in the world in an effort to decolonise our pan-activist culture-building praxis

We will be learning to:
🏵️ dwell in place
🥀 integrate the natural cycles of the season
🌷 regulate our nervous system
🌿 embody ecosystemic perspectives
🌱 utilise ancestral medicine
🫚 practice kapwa kinship with human n non-human beings

You can purchase a whole month's worth of sessions, or individual ones week to week.
Participants attend live or by watching the recordings

Ayo-Ayo?! Come and join us as we learn how to make Lana at Tahanan Studios on Saturday the 11th of May from 10am-2pm.

Lana is a sacred healing coconut oil that our people have used for generations in ritual, medicine, and cooking too!

In this workshop, we’ll imbue our Lana with our intentions (Diwa/Spirit) and choose a selection of tanom/halaman/plant allies: Ginger (luy-a), Lemongrass (tanglad), Guava (bayabas), & Moringa (kamunggay/malunggay) as we move through the elements of pressing and pounding herbs (Yuta/Earth), milking and extracting coconut milk (Tubig/Water), cooking it all together (Kalayo/Fire), and setting the medicinal oil (Hangin/Air).

We’ll be sharing ancestral frameworks around herbal medicine, plant allies, animism and Hilot (Traditional Filipinx Medicine) as we make Lana from scratch. There’s no need to have any experience in herbal medicine, you don't even need to be Filipinx! After this workshop, you will be able to take home some Lana with you, as well as experience some ways our kin still use Lana in healing and ritual throughout the Archipelago. All you need to bring is your own jar (200ml roughly) and healing spirit 🔥

This workshop is limited to 11 participants so don't forget to reserve your spot!

Day off = bed life

I do a lot from my bed. If I can help it, I study in bed, I do admin or cowork in bed, I attend class (off-video) in bed, I eat in bed, I read in bed, I play w sugi in bed, I create in bed, I watch movies in bed

I don't have a lot of stamina for holding my back up (even w core strength) which means that when I'm at my desk, having the right back support makes it possible for me to sit in class for 3hrs straight, see clients for 6hrs straight, or write assignments for upto 8hrs straight sometimes 😭

Even tho I'm pretty active everyday (I did 9000 steps the other day), sitting up can tire me just as much as other physical activities. And of course there's a consequence, I've been recovering the last 2 days bc of all that energy exertion (3000 steps is my usual). Although walking on concrete while carrying a load uphill is probably my worst nightmare 🔪

Time for bed

As we enter another series of ginhawa circles with our special guest facilitators, and , I thought I'd share some of my favourite somatic practices I use with my clients

The practices I've chosen include more context rather than pairing a movement practice with a symptom (like do this for anxiety). I love doing those and use a lot of them too with my clients! However, most of the time, our adaptive responses have been caused by environmental factors. By mentalising, or imagining an experience, we are able to find a somatic experience to pair with that context. I find that this helps the practice to stick more deeply as we play with rewiring our brain.

Enjoy!

Maayong adlaw mga higala!

I've felt so privileged to have the space to be quiet these last few months. Grieving my puppo, Ami, as well as missing the homeland, has given me the chance to internally reflect on love, community, and what it means to be here on someone else's land and for that land to be stolen.

A lot of my clients have heard me talk about holding contradictions. How can we expand in our joys when there is so much grief and devastation around? How can we heal when structural oppression is ongoing/worsening? How can we organise when so many are burnt out/traumatised?

I believe that one answer lies in our bodies, these flesh sacks, as well as our collective ones. Our bodies are so intelligent at holding these contradictions. And when we listen what opens is something new and possible. Of course, it's easier said then done (and sometimes not possible at all depending on the severity).

This is why I love what we do in our himu-himu coworking sessions and ginhawa circles.

Join us this next month as we discover what's available when we're able to hold these contradictions. Link in bio

Side note: It makes me think of orcas sinking boats, or how Mayon volcano is beginning to erupt in my homeland. In our culture, volcanic unrest can signal too much corruption and injustice in the lands.

We view crisis as a time of intense difficulty or danger. From a healing perspective, crisis can be considered to be the turning point in which important change takes place.

When our systems are in crisis (macro or micro), this can be an opportunity for change. Moving through it can be difficult and even feel impossible, which is why I like to practice together. As cliché as it sounds, collectively we are stronger.

Join us tonight for our first ginhawa circle for our April series! Facilitated by Nawa Sybico, we will be learning basic somatic concepts and utilising our experiential bodies to generate change and help us move through times of crisis.

Every Monday in April from 7-8:15pm AEST. Recordings available with registration.

It's been a really big time settling back into my life here in lutruwita. After being home in the motherland for the last 3 months, I can feel the bigness of that experience in my body.

Integration helps us to digest these big or new experiences so they can shape and transform us. When we go straight into something else, these big feelings can get "stuck" in the body until we are ready to pay attention to them.

Join me from the 10th of April as we move our bodies and practice somatics and coregulate together!

The sessions go for 1.15hrs on Mondays at 7pm AEDT.

You can join a single session or attend all 4 circles! Replays will also be available.

✨✨ Resting Grief Face ✨✨

My parents have now been dead for 4 and 5 years. Most of my grandparents have also left this realm and many friends have been lost. Also, like the climate crisis... impacts of colonisation, religion, empire, patriarchy, white supremacy...

Grief reminds me of my love, my connection and communal care work between beings

Grief pulls me to the earth. I feel weighted. I feel gravity. Grief shows me something unseeable whilst showing me me

Grief pulls me to the past. My past... Our past... To my ancestors and the ancestors of these worlds

Grief tells me that I am not a ghost just yet

What does your grief tell you?

(Image description - here's a photo of me, a brown bisaya q***r person wearing a black top and a red fringe, a handmade shell necklace from a friend in bantayan, and a few arm tattoos. I am posing in front of my family's burial plot with some green mountains in the background)
