Life has a way of reminding us, sometimes in the most jarring ways, just how fragile and precious each moment is. On Thursday evening, after leaving my Rosslyn sanctuary event, I was happy, reflecting on a night that had gone beautifully. That sense of peace was suddenly shattered when a white utility vehicle, headlights off and swerving recklessly, shot out in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and somehow, by what felt like a miracle, avoided a collision. The entire incident lasted only seconds, yet it unfolded in slow motion, leaving me shaken and acutely aware of how quickly everything can change.
As the driver disappeared down a side street, I sat for a moment, shaking but grateful to be safe. Continuing on over the rise I saw the flashing lights of a police checkpoint. When the officer asked if I’d been drinking, I couldn’t help but laugh and reply, “I’ve been with the spirits tonight, but none that would’ve impaired my driving.” It was a moment of levity after such a close call, a gentle reminder that humor can sometimes help us process fear.
This experience was again a reminder for me how unpredictable life is. In the blink of an eye, everything can change. We are all vulnerable, not just to our own choices, but to the actions of others. As we move through our days, especially on the roads, let’s remember to be mindful, not only for our own sake, but for everyone around us. Stay present, stay aware, and hold your loved ones close.
Without a shadow of doubt, my guardian angels were looking after me.
Take care, friends.
