Our final visit on our Loddon Mallee tour was to Bendigo Community Health Services (BCHS).

We are so pleased for Mandy Hutchinson and the BCHS team that in 2 weeks time their fully refurbished Eaglehawk facility will reopen. We also congratulate them on selection as one of three sites for the trial of Health and Wellbeing Locals, providing vital care and supporting service navigation for Bendigo families.

Thank you for hosting us on the final leg of our tour.

We wrapped up day 2 of our Loddon Mallee tour with a visit to CEO Chloe Keough and the executive team at Swan Hill District Health (SHDH).

We were pleased to get a look at the new ED building, opened in December 2024. SWDH is the largest employer in the area and is known for integrated community health services, aged care, ED and acute care. They also provide vital GP services, as the only clinic in town.

Thanks to Chloe and the team for meeting with us and sharing their vision for the next 12 months.

Thank you to Centre Manager Carol Paech for the warm welcome to Woomelang Bush Nursing Centre (WBNC) on the VHA’s Loddon Mallee Member Engagement Tour. We particularly enjoyed hearing about the monthly community engagement events led by the Centre bringing residents together to connect learn and share ideas.

With a population of 200 the Centre’s broad range of services include; allied health, wound care, aged care, pathology, and community transport. WBNC brings vital services to Woomelang, it was meaningful to see first-hand the role this service plays as the central hub of this small but connected community.

We were pleased to visit Mallee Track Health and Community Service (MTHCS) and meet with CEO Frances Peart and Director of Community Services Lyndal Munro.

Mallee Track is one of Victoria’s multipurpose services, enabling a flexible and integrated approach to funding that meets the needs of the community. This model has allowed the service to establish initiatives such as Mallee Track@Home and a medical clinic to meet the primary care needs of the Ouyen community.

MTHCS provides a comprehensive range of services from acute medical and urgent care, community and district nursing to early years support, aged care, and allied health. Collaborating with Oral Health Victoria, they are excited to introduce a treatment van to Ouyen which will be visiting schools in the community.

With a strong community transport MTHCS is a great service supporting community access to care.

It was a pleasure to make our first visit to Robinvale District Health Services (RDHS) as part as part of the VHA’s Loddon Mallee Member Engagement Tour. We were warmly welcomed by CEO Ro Enever, Director Corporate Services and Deputy CEO Vicki Shawcross, and Director Primary and Community Services Caroline Martin.

RDHS plays a vital role in supporting rural communities across north-west Victoria and southern New South Wales, offering multidisciplinary care across all stages of life; from early years to residential aged care. We learnt more about their multipurpose service (MPS) which provides an integrated model bringing together health and aged care services to meet the unique needs of their community. Robinvale is home to a population of around 8,000 people representing 62 cultures. We were particularly impressed by RDHS’s use of a health service navigator and translation services to ensure community members can interact with their services seamlessly.

It’s always a pleasure to visit Mildura Base Public Hospital (MBPH) and to see the beautiful building wrapped in more than 250 square metres of Aboriginal artwork, created by local Barkindji artists Aunty Sharon Kirby and Uncle Peter Peterson.

During the visit, the VHA team were welcomed by MBPH Executive Director Engagement & Support Services Heath Kendall, Director Clinical Operations & CNMO Katrina Allen, and Executive Director Compliance & Patient Experience Elise Elder. Discussions focused on the hospital’s critical role in delivering tri-state services to the Sunraysia region, encompassing communities across Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

As the most remote public hospital in Victoria and with a growing population, Mildura Base Public Hospital plays a vital role in ensuring access to care close to home for the community.

This week, the VHA kicked off its Loddon Mallee Member Engagement Tour with a visit to Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS) in Mildura. CEO Leigh Clarke, General Manager - Sector Capability Amber O’Shea, and Policy Advisor Lucy Hannon were pleased to meet with CEO Darren Midgley, Board Chair Glenis Beaumont, and other members of the executive team.

SCHS provides a diverse range of services to the community of Mildura and surrounds including residents in New South Wales, demonstrating a strong commitment to collaboration and community led care. One highlight was the Family and Child Hub, which offers integrated support for families from pregnancy through to the pre-teen years.

It was a great first stop on our Loddon Mallee tour, and we look forward to connecting with more members across the region in the days ahead.
