Help us secure recognition for Behaviour Analysts under the NDIS.

Association for Behaviour Analysis Australia - ABAA has released a national joint statement calling on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to recognise Certified Behaviour Analysts (CBAs) & Certified Behaviour Analysts Undergraduate (CBAs) and the discipline of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) in the NDIS Practice Standards Qualification and Professional Associations Guide (October 2025).

The current omission of Behaviour Analysts creates uncertainty for providers and threatens participant access to essential, evidence-based supports.🖊️

Covering over 150 topics that span each phase of the school years, our platform addresses the support needs of all autistic children, regardless of where they are on the spectrum. ADHD Awareness Month is celebrated every October to raise awareness of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 1 in 20 Australians. The theme for 2024 is ‘Awareness is Key’. Raising awareness opens the door to so many possibilities to support those with ADHD in school, at work and in the community. It also helps teachers and employers understand their students and employees who have ADHD. This August, Bright Eyes staff will be joining our local community to participate in the Firies Climb for MND.

The Firies Climb for MND is an annual event where firefighters raise money and awareness for motor neurone disease (MND) research at Macquarie University. MND is a degenerative, terminal neurological disease. In the past firefighters have climbed Sydney Tower Eye, and created their own challenges, but this year the climb will take place at Scenic World, Katoomba with the challenge to climb the gruelling Furber Stairs as many times as we can!

. We will be preparing and training with our community to complete our team and individual challenges. This challenge is hard, but not as hard as MND which is a progressive, terminal neurological disease. It affects the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us....

Some of the Bright Eyes team were lucky enough to travel to Melbourne last weekend for the 9th Annual Conference hosted by Association for Behaviour Analysis Australia - ABAA. A highlight of the professional year, this conference is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded colleagues and researchers, hear about the advancements in our field, and reflect on how to use the brilliant science of behaviour analysis in person-centered and neuro-affirming ways.

A few highlights were:

1. Hearing from Sharon Paley Wakefield (Australian Centre for Restraint Reduction and Elimination) on how to use ethical decision making protocols to assess and manage risk, whilst upholding human rights.
2. Full-day workshop with Nicholas Maio-Aether, MAMFT, MSPSY, LBA, CSC, IBA, BCBA on sociosexual programs for adolescents and adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities.
3. Bright Eyes staff sitting on a panel with Dr. Gina Green (BCBA-D) to discuss the need for quality assurance and clinical governance within the field (more on this to come!)
4. Our research poster representing clinical and social validity outcomes of Bright Eyes client’s progressing through the ‘Balance Program’ - a parent-implemented, home-based intervention.
5. Our very own Niesha Illingworth (Clinical Director - Blue Mountains) being appointed President-Elect of the Association for Behaviour Analysis Australia!

And so much more. We look forward to seeing what the next 12-months holds for the development of our field and seeing everyone again next year.
