This lesion in the lower jaw was picked up on a routine OPG X-ray… the patient had no symptoms but we decided to investigate to obtain a diagnosis and treatment.

We found an empty bony cavity. This can be diagnosed immediately as a solitary bone cyst and is not confirmed by a pathological specimen.

Blood will fill up the bony void and new bone will grow into the space… in six months the jaw will be back to full strength! 🙌

These types of cysts can occur for no apparent reason, although they are more common in younger people, and sometimes those with a history of trauma.

Thao has over 10 years of experience working within the field of Oral Surgery

Thao grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches before completing her dental degree in Sydney University. She worked with ECOS colleagues Dr Mike Tame and Dr Ben Karim at the Sydney Dental Hospital for a number of years prior to spending over three years working in private Oral Surgery practice in Perth, WA.

After returning to Sydney she completed her specialist training and she is happy to be back working on Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches! 🦷☀️😁

Santa came to visit the East Coast Oral surgery rooms this week and delivered some goodies to the kids and fur babies of ECOS. There were some very interesting presents not to mention the best dressed Santa 😬 It was a lovely evening with the team and their extended families. It really is starting to feel a lot like Christmas 🎅 🎁 🎄
