Australia’s new under-16 social media laws are rolling out — but it’s important to remember that real change starts at home.
While platforms work through the implementation, many children are already trying to open new accounts or get around the restrictions. This doesn’t mean the laws aren’t effective — it means our consistency as parents is crucial in this transition.
📌 Why this matters:
Children’s brains are still developing — especially the areas responsible for impulse control, emotional regulation, and dopamine balance. Social media overstimulates these systems in ways young minds aren’t built to manage yet.
👨👩👧 As parents, we can support the rollout by:
• Checking devices regularly
• Closing new or hidden accounts
• Setting clear boundaries
• Communicating calmly and confidently
• Reminding children the law exists for their safety — not punishment
This is a change that will take time, but staying steady, firm, and supportive will make the biggest difference.
We’re all learning through this together — and protecting our kids is worth the effort.
