Developing and maintaining the ability to communicate is a journey we all take starting as a toddler first mimicking our parents, to a preschooler learning to speak smoothly and correct

ly without stuttering, then as a school aged child we begin to read and speak with confidence through to becoming an adult who relies on clear speech for work and play. Better communication is what we are all about! The team at Eastside Speech understand that sometimes the journey to good communication is not easy and believe that effective, positive speech therapy can be the key to improved confidence at school, in work and in relationships. We offer a wide range of speech therapies to assist with literacy, difficulties saying sounds correctly (pronunciation), stuttering, apraxia, language comprehension or language delay, accent modification and accent reduction as well as working with those suffering communication impairment as a result of brain injury, stroke or other neurological conditions. Eastside Speech Solutions understands that adults and children are different and we tailor our therapy sessions to accommodate individual's needs and abilities. The team's experience allows us to focus our speech therapy to support and develop good communication regardless of whether we are helping adults or preschoolers, native speakers or clients from overseas. In this fast-paced game, kids have 6 seconds to draw a prompt, then others guess what it is. But in our sessions, we use it to build so much more than fast drawing skills:

Let’s Make HOT CHOCOLATE – A Winter Speech & Language Activity! ☕❄️
Cold outside? Warm up with a fun and functional activity that builds your child’s communication skills while making a delicious treat!

Making hot chocolate is a sweet opportunity to support:
🗣 Speech Sounds
• /h/ – hot, heat, hold
• /ch/ – chocolate, chips, chunks
• /m/ – marshmallows, mix, mug
✨ Say words slowly and clearly—encourage your child to repeat!

📚 Vocabulary Building
Mug, kettle, steam, pour, stir, creamy, sweet

🧠 Following Instructions
“First pour the milk, then add the chocolate.”
“After you get a mug, get the marshmallows.”
“Before you add the water, add the chocolate powder.”

🔁 Taking Turns
“Your turn to stir!” “Now it’s my turn to add marshmallows!”

🧩 Sequencing & Retelling
Snap pics of each step, then retell:

With the cold outside, it’s easy to cozy up with a movie (or two!) and a warm drink ☕️. But too much screen time can affect your child’s development and mental wellbeing. Here are some tips to reduce screen time this winter:

⏰ Set a time limit before you press play, using a visual or sound timer with warnings as time runs out.
📺 Choose shorter shows.
🎲 Try board games and card games for older kids — fun for the whole family!
❄️ Embrace the cold, get outside, play, and enjoy the winter weather!
