Harry called.

He was looking for inspiration.

The name Aperture entered the conversation.

Now his new single shares our name.

Letting the light in feels right for us too.

You don’t need to have everything worked out before starting therapy.

Many people come to therapy feeling confused, stuck, or unsure how to make sense of what they’re experiencing. A key part of the early work is taking time to understand what’s happening, how it developed, and what might help. This process of assessment and shared understanding often helps people feel heard, validated, and clearer about the path forward.

At Aperture Psychology, we provide evidence-based psychological therapy and assessment, supporting people at different stages of life.

We welcome clients at our Randwick and Marrickville practices.

Private practice can be deeply rewarding.
It can also be isolating.

Between full caseloads, case notes, and the admin that quietly expands around the work, opportunities for meaningful professional conversation can slip away.

For many psychologists, this becomes most noticeable after formal training ends. The regular space to reflect, challenge ideas, and learn alongside peers is suddenly gone.

That’s why we created our Group Clinical Supervision Program. A small, structured space where clinicians can think together, share perspectives, and stay connected to the craft of the work.

Led by Peter Walker, the program brings clinicians together around real cases, real questions, and real practice.

If this sounds like the kind of professional space you’d value in 2026, you can learn more about the program here:

When anger feels out of proportion, it is often linked to how a situation is being interpreted rather than the situation itself.

Strong anger responses are commonly maintained by rigid expectations, underlying beliefs, and unrecognised stress, often reflected in patterns of ‘should’, ‘must’, and ‘ought’ thinking. These cognitive appraisals can intensify emotional and physiological reactions to everyday frustrations.

Therapy can help identify and evaluate these patterns, understand the function of anger, and develop more flexible thinking and behavioural strategies — without suppressing or invalidating emotional experience.

We offer evidence-based anger treatment with experienced clinical psychologists at our Randwick and Marrickville clinics.

ADHD doesn’t show up the same way for everyone. That’s why assessment needs to be comprehensive.

Our process includes detailed diagnostic interviews, input from key people where appropriate, validated rating scales, and cognitive testing. Together, these pieces form a clear picture of strengths, challenges, and support needs.

Assessments conclude with a feedback session and written report with personalised recommendations, so you leave with understanding and direction.

Work starts again.
Routines creep back in.
The inbox wakes up 😅

Some of us return feeling energised and motivated (ready to tackle the year… or at least the emails).

Others return feeling flat, foggy, or overwhelmed — still recovering from Christmas pudding, too much sun, the Ashes celebrations 🏏, or simply getting the kids back to school.

Both responses make sense.

Transitions can be motivating and draining.
Even familiar change asks something of our nervous system.

Noticing how this shift is landing for you — and meeting it with a bit of self-compassion — can help set a steadier tone for the year ahead.

December and January often bring a kind of stop-start rhythm.

Between Christmas, school holidays, and the New Year break, routines shift, workloads compress, and expectations rise.
For some, it’s a welcome pause — time to rest, reconnect, and step out of day-to-day pressure.

For others, the season can feel unsettled.

- Shorter work weeks alongside rising workloads
- Family time that brings both closeness and strain
- Routines disappearing just when structure feels most needed

If you’ve noticed more fatigue, irritability, or pressure to “make this time special,” you’re not alone.

Transitions, even welcome ones, can stretch the emotional and cognitive resources we rely on to stay grounded.

As the year turns over, be gentle with yourself if things feel a little heavier, slower, or more complex than expected.
How are you experiencing this time of year — grounding, challenging, or a mix of both?

Merry Christmas from the team at Aperture Psychology.

We hope the break brings rest, connection, and time with the people who matter most.

Our practices will reopen on 7th January 2026, and our reception team will respond to enquiries as soon as we return.

Wishing you a safe and restorative holiday season.

Had a great end of year celebration with the Aperture Psychology team. In this profession, you spend all day talking and connecting to people, but end up passing your colleagues like ships in the night. It was great to have the time to catch up with the Aperture veterans and introduce our new additions. It's a real privilege to work alongside such a great group of people. Wishing everyone a well deserved break.

Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy hosted a focused and research-driven event last month, led by our very own A/Prof Dr.Aliza Werner-Seidler, on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).

The session explored how insomnia develops, the behavioural cycles that maintain it, and the practical interventions that support long-term improvement in sleep.

Aliza also highlighted the wider impact of sleep on mood, cognition, and daily functioning — reinforcing why CBT-I remains the leading evidence-based treatment for insomnia.
