From the front desk to behind the scenes, your care, organisation and dedication keep everything moving. You are often the first friendly face, the steady support, and the quiet force holding it all together.

From all of us at the Royal Hospital for Women Foundation, thank you for the vital role you play every single day in supporting staff, patients and families.

Thank you for all that you do.
Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

"Volunteering is always the highlight of my week.”

Meet Aileen, one of our incredible volunteers who spends time each week across the Postnatal ward, NICU, and Gynae Oncology ward - offering Koala Packs, a cup of tea, and a moment of connection with patients and new mums.

Over 20 years ago, Aileen was on the other side - a NICU mum herself. Both of her daughters were born premature and cared for by the very team she now gives back to.

During one of the most overwhelming times in her life, she found comfort in the kindness, care and support around her. Today, she returns that same support - offering a listening ear, a warm smile, and a reminder to new mums that they’re not alone.

Now, with her children grown, Aileen has found a new purpose: giving back to the community that once held her.

“I get to share my story, and listen to other mothers’ stories… it means so much.”

Join us in celebrating our volunteers who bring so much light, care, and connection here at The Royal.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Meg Bracken, a past Gynae Oncology patient at The Royal Hospital for Women, who will be leading “Nurture in Nature” - a series of Forest Therapy walks for women affected by cancer.

“Sometimes the best medicine is a morning walk among the trees.” 🌿

In collaboration with Randwick City Council, these Forest Therapy walks offer a gentle space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect - with yourself, with others, and with nature.

Meg’s work is deeply personal. After being a patient at The Royal in 2018, she went on to support the Gynae Oncology department, helping raise funds for the now-installed bell - a powerful symbol for patients marking the end of their treatment. “Nurture in Nature” is an extension of that same care and compassion, created to support women through every stage of their journey.

Held in the peaceful surrounds of Centennial Parklands, these guided walks are inspired by Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing) and are designed to ease stress, awaken the senses, and offer gentle restoration.

✨ Free to attend
✨ Small, supportive groups
✨ Open to women in treatment, recovery, survivorship, and their support people

First walks:
Wednesday 13th May | 9:30am–12:30pm
Wednesday 3rd June | 9:30am–12:30pm

For enquiries and bookings, please reach out to Meg at forestpathways.walks@gmail.com

Forty women living with metastatic breast cancer came together at The Royal for Riding the Waves - a morning of connection, understanding and support.

This seminar was led by Helen Conlon, Clinical Nurse Consultant from The Royal’s Breast Services department, and featured talks from clinicians across the hospital - all dedicated to supporting, educating and nurturing women living with metastatic breast cancer.

For many, MBC can feel deeply isolating. This space offered the chance to be seen, heard, and surrounded by others who truly understand.

The Royal Hospital for Women’s Breast Services cares for over 2,500 women each year, offering comprehensive, multidisciplinary support, from diagnosis through to treatment and beyond.

The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation is proud to support initiatives like this for our community, and to work alongside Breast Services to help create spaces for reflection, connection and care. 💜

At the Fertility and Research Centre (FRC) at The Royal, science and compassion come together every day to help create families, preserve futures, and hold space for hope.

This National Infertility Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the incredible team behind the scenes - from our scientists in the Andrology Lab, to our embryologists in the ART Laboratory, to the multidisciplinary team supporting every embryo transfer: nurses, embryologists and doctors working side by side.

The FRC exists because of community generosity. The Fertility and Research Centre was made possible through $1.6M in philanthropic funding raised by the Royal Hospital for Women Foundation in 2017, enabling the creation of Australia’s first dedicated public oncofertility centre and one of the most advanced fertility laboratories in the country.

The Royal’s FRC provides care for people experiencing infertility, recurrent miscarriage, PCOS, and early pregnancy concerns - alongside specialised fertility preservation for patients facing cancer, including children and young adults.

Each year, the centre supports around 650 treatment cycles, including more than 170 fertility preservation cycles, offering patients not only clinical expertise, but the chance to hold onto possibility during some of life’s most uncertain moments.

“Every day, I am reminded how extraordinary it is to combine science, precision, and compassion to help people achieve what often feels impossible - the chance to have a family.” - Oksana, Scientific Director of the ART Laboratory

“I love working in the Andrology laboratory at The Royal because we are specialised in male infertility, an area that has often been overlooked. I feel proud that our team can support oncology patients in preserving their fertility.” - Harleen, Andrology Lab Manager

This is the heart of the FRC - where multidisciplinary teams, research, and compassionate care meet.

And at its foundation is something deeply simple: hope, made possible through community support 💜

“What followed was a journey I never expected… one that changed my life.” - Kirsty

In 2021, after the birth of her first child, Kirsty suffered a severe postpartum haemorrhage and underwent an emergency hysterectomy.

Thanks to the world-class team at The Royal Hospital for Women, Kirsty and her mum Michelle became part of Australia’s first successful uterine transplant program. Under the care of Dr Rebecca Deans and Dr Jana Pittman, she was given the extraordinary chance to carry another baby.

On 15th December 2023, her family welcomed baby Henry - the first baby in Australia born from a transplanted uterus ✨

This year, Kirsty, along with her mother and sister-in-law, are lacing up their runners once again for City2Surf, returning for their second year.

Every step they take will help fund life-changing care and groundbreaking research, giving more women and families hope for the future.

Thank you to Kirsty, Michelle and Anna for taking on City2Surf together again in support of The Royal 💜

A huge and heartfelt congratulations to Chloe and Angus Crichton on the arrival of their beautiful baby boy at The Royal Hospital for Women - welcome to the world, baby Sullivan 💜

The couple welcomed their little one on April 5th, spending those precious first days together in the Postnatal Ward, soaking in all the love and support that surrounds new families at The Royal.

“The Royal was incredible in helping us welcome our first child into the world. The care we received was outstanding, especially the follow-up and postnatal support. My wife Chloe and our son stayed on the ward for a few extra nights, and the team continued to support us even after we returned home with follow-up visits to ensure we felt confident and cared for. As first-time parents, Chloe and I couldn’t recommend the hospital highly enough.” - Angus Crichton (NRL Sydney Roosters)

It’s moments like these that remind us whether you’re a first-time parent or a Roosters powerhouse, every family deserves to feel held, supported, and deeply cared for in those first precious days.

With love and warmest congratulations,
The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation ✨

“We know our son is a fighter. And he will keep fighting until the day he comes home with us.” - Bishara, Sammy’s dad

Sammy was born at just 23 weeks + 6 days, and since then, he’s been fighting with everything he has.

For over 10 weeks, Bishara and Danielle have travelled an hour each way from Campbelltown, every single day, to be by their baby boy’s side in the NICU at The Royal.

Through multiple surgeries and countless transfusions, Sammy’s journey is one of resilience, faith, and unwavering love - held by his family, and the incredible team caring for him.

Now, Bishara is taking on the City2Surf as a Royal Dad 🏃 and has already raised over $1000!

Every step of the 14km is for Sammy - and for the doctors, nurses, and specialists helping keep him here.

If you feel moved to support Baby Sammy, you can donate via this link: https://city2surf26.grassrootz.com/the-royal-hospital-for-women-foundation/baby-sammy-tautaiolefue

Or join the Royal Runners and run with purpose this City2Surf!

Together, we can support more families like Sammy’s when they need it most.

Sending love and strength to Sammy and his beautiful family 💜

We are so honoured to have NZ-based artist Emma Bass visit us here at The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation, and to see her donated artwork now placed within our Perinatal Loss Clinic 💜

“I’ve experienced multiple pregnancy losses, so this felt profoundly personal.”

“As a former nurse and someone who cares deeply about the role of beauty in healing, I know how much the visual environment matters when you’re in a place of difficulty… I’ve donated many works to healthcare spaces across Auckland and received so much feedback about the comfort they’ve brought. I hope this piece offers the same to the women and families at The Royal.”

We are so grateful for this incredibly thoughtful contribution. It’s a reminder that there are many ways to support women and families at The Royal - through art, through storytelling, through giving - all helping to create spaces that feel more human, more compassionate, and more held.

Emma Bass Artist thank you for sharing your heart with our community 💜

Every day at The Royal, families experience moments that change their lives forever. Sometimes, a little support can make a huge difference.

We are privileged to meet patients and families during some of these big moments, crossing paths when they choose to give back and help others.

Last week, David Bragg and his family stopped by the Foundation office. As grateful patients, they have chosen to give back generously to The Royal, helping us provide the best care for mothers and babies in critical moments.

Your generosity ensures that life-saving equipment, specialist care, and support for families in need are always available.

Together, we make a difference for every family who walks through our doors.
