At the Fertility and Research Centre (FRC) at The Royal, science and compassion come together every day to help create families, preserve futures, and hold space for hope.
This National Infertility Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the incredible team behind the scenes - from our scientists in the Andrology Lab, to our embryologists in the ART Laboratory, to the multidisciplinary team supporting every embryo transfer: nurses, embryologists and doctors working side by side.
The FRC exists because of community generosity. The Fertility and Research Centre was made possible through $1.6M in philanthropic funding raised by the Royal Hospital for Women Foundation in 2017, enabling the creation of Australia’s first dedicated public oncofertility centre and one of the most advanced fertility laboratories in the country.
The Royal’s FRC provides care for people experiencing infertility, recurrent miscarriage, PCOS, and early pregnancy concerns - alongside specialised fertility preservation for patients facing cancer, including children and young adults.
Each year, the centre supports around 650 treatment cycles, including more than 170 fertility preservation cycles, offering patients not only clinical expertise, but the chance to hold onto possibility during some of life’s most uncertain moments.
“Every day, I am reminded how extraordinary it is to combine science, precision, and compassion to help people achieve what often feels impossible - the chance to have a family.” - Oksana, Scientific Director of the ART Laboratory
“I love working in the Andrology laboratory at The Royal because we are specialised in male infertility, an area that has often been overlooked. I feel proud that our team can support oncology patients in preserving their fertility.” - Harleen, Andrology Lab Manager
This is the heart of the FRC - where multidisciplinary teams, research, and compassionate care meet.
And at its foundation is something deeply simple: hope, made possible through community support 💜
