Huge congratulations to PPFC physio Alla on the publication of her paper as first author 🎉👏
An exciting collaboration between Sydney Local Health District and the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health.

This study looked at the Osteoarthritis Chronic Care Program (OACCP) - a team-based approach that includes physios, doctors, and other health professionals working together to support people with hip and knee osteoarthritis. The findings show that this kind of tailored, multidisciplinary care can make a real difference in improving people’s function and quality of life.

Such important work highlighting how the right care, at the right time, can make a huge impact 💪

Why do we use the wall sit as an assessment tool?
It’s not just about burning quads; it gives us valuable insight into lower limb control, muscular endurance, pelvic positioning, and postural strategy.

✅ A properly set-up wall sit allows us to assess:
🔹 Quadriceps and glute endurance — Can you maintain the position without compensating or fatiguing too early?
🔹 Pelvic and lumbar control — Are you tucking under excessively or arching through your back?
🔹 Knee alignment — Are the knees tracking over the toes or collapsing in (valgus)?
🔹 Foot and ankle control — Are you gripping your toes or rolling through the arches to compensate? (best done without shoes)

This assessment can reveal:
💥 Weakness or over-reliance in certain muscle groups
💥 Poor neuromuscular control
💥 Imbalances between right and left sides
💥 Early signs of fatigue that may contribute to injury

And if the wall sit feels harder than it should? It might be highlighting underlying issues with strength, endurance, or motor patterning — especially in hypermobile bodies.

✨ Bonus: When used in rehab, it’s a fantastic low-load way to build control and confidence in early-stage conditioning.

At PPFC, we incorporate clinical pilates into our treatment plans to support function long term and improve muscle control, strength and mobility.
 
Anastasia is demonstrating the ‘mermaid’ exercise on the reformer which is a great way of improving thoracic mobility and working on control throughout resisted range of motion training.
 
Our Physio group sessions include use of the reformer, chair, cadillac, weights, resistance bands, medicine balls and mat exercises to support you in your rehab.
