Spring might have sprung, but Director of Emergency Services at Redcliffe Hospital Dr Alan Yan said the hospital is still seeing lots of patients, including many for respiratory illnesses common in winter. 🌼

With our ED doors always open, it is worth remembering that some of our other emergency care options might work better for lower acuity needs - including our Virtual Emergency Care Service and Satellite Health Centres.

“We are facing higher than usual demands due to respiratory illnesses and a higher presentation of our frail community members," he said.

“If you are needing emergency care, we will always be here for you, but please consider some alternatives if you have minor or non-urgent health concerns.”

💎"There is no greater generosity than that which saves a life" 💜 Hardly a dry eye in the Brisbane City Hall ballroom as Juliette McAleer sang her song of gratitude for all who had saved her life.

Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital was pleased to celebrate with Juliette and nearly 500 people tonight at the RBWH Foundation Ruby Gala Ball - 40 years of making Queenslanders strong, 40 years of life-saving generosity 💜

For the past 5 years, that generosity has extended to the community supported by Redcliffe Hospital - and we are grateful ❤️

Together greater generosity is possible. Together greater impact is possible. Together more lives saved like Juliette's is possible.

💎And Juliette? Read on for a little of her inspiring story...

Juliette started to experience back pain at work but thought nothing of it - so she purchased a heat pack and kept working. But later that night, the pain got progressively worse.

Once at her regional hospital, doctors realised that parts of Juliette's bowel and stomach were starved of blood and oxygen and had started to die. When it became apparent she would likely not survive, her surgeon called RBWH to see if there was anything more that could be done to save Juliette's life.

Juliette was flown to RBWH via a rescue chopper where she then spent more than 5 months in hospital, had multiple surgeries and endured a long recovery journey.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Juliette has set ambitious goals - discovering a passion for running, boosting her physical health and a newfound appreciation for life's potential - plus she reignited her passion for music.

Tonight Juliette performed a song she wrote especially to celebrate 40 years of RBWH Foundation making Queenslanders strong... even saving their lives.
