As you know we offer outstanding results for scar healing proven on multiple patients already.

In fact, class 3b lasers are so versatile with a wide range of applications that they are going really well.

So you are very likely to experience a laser treatment if you come see us at Red Hill practice.

We now also offer skin rejuvenation treatments using photobiomodulation (PBM).

We often hear those questions :
- what is that laser?
- is it painful?
- will my pigmentation get worse?
- is it safe to use while pregnant?
- what if I have cancer?
- can it damage my thyroid?
- do I need that treatment?

So here is a short answer - class 3b lasers are less powerful than class 4 and use focused light that is put through hard medium (3 different metals for our Physiolaser RJ) to achieve a focused beam that penetrates the skin and affects mainly melanin and haemoglobin.

PBM does not produce heat, therefore those lasers are called cold lasers, they do not cause pain, but instead give an instant pain relief.

We have various settings including face skin specifically designed to plump skin by producing extra collagen and if you apply hyaluronic acid it will crystallise the molecules so the effect is enhanced. If anything it will decrease pigmentation over a few sessions in a very gentle manner. Please remember to use your sunscreen.

There are no absolute contraindications for PBM. In pregnancy we use it away from developing foetus to avoid any potential damages to baby's eyes. In cancer there is no established research regarding 3b lasers and therefore it's left to medical professionals to treat.

In regards to thyroid the research clearly established there is no permanent damage from PBM possible, however as it's a light sensitive organ, we try to avoid the area as much as possible. In the future it might be useful to treat hypothyroidism as it stimulates the gland.

As with any treatment the decision is made by your health professional based on your circumstances and best available evidence to date.

Please feel free to drop us any questions below 🙏

Something to consider about paracetamol.

Why is that not "all size fitls all"? Most likely this widely depends on individual's metabolic features aka genetics.

According to a literature review by Zhao and Pickering (2011):

" Intersubject and ethnic differences have been reported in paracetamol metabolism activation, suggesting possible differences in susceptibility to toxicity and in pain alleviation, linked to different pharmacogenetic profiles."

Rule of thumb - unsure of whether you carry a gene that may or may not cause your body to adversely react?

Think twice before taking the medication.

A growing body of research suggests that prenatal exposure to paracetamol (APAP) might alter development and increase the risk of some reproductive, urogenital and neurodevelopmental disorders. This Consensus Statement calls for precautionary action, including a focused research effort, increasing a...
