Throwback to a couple of weeks ago when I felt pretty darn good, the sun came out for 10 minutes on a cold dreary day and I honestly thought I had managed to dodge the flu this winter 😬

I 👏 was 👏 SO 👏 wrong 👏 😭

Thank you universe for stepping up and reminding me that I am not super-human after all 🤧

Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding and patient, rolling with the constant cancellations and rescheduling over the last week + 🙏

Thank you to everyone who had to listen to me complain about how boring it is to be sick and stuck at home 🥱

I think I am finally on the mend though 😅🤞 and I am definitely looking forward to being back at work doing what I love.

Please don’t mind the croaky voice 😆 it is going to be hard saying serious life changing things - I truly don’t mind if you need to have a laugh at my expense 😂

On a serious note though - please don’t go scooting about town unnecessarily if you are sick. There is a lot more flu going around than ‘usual’ right now for a number of reasons (that is factual) and I am very lucky to have my health. Some people aren’t so fortunate as their health is far more vulnerable - that can feel pretty scary 🥺

So please take care of yourselves and each other 🫶

See you soon 👋

Turn February Teal 🩵

Educate • Advocate • Elevate

Did you know that only 31% of Australians are aware that ovarian cancer has the poorest survival rate of any female cancer in this country? The symptoms are often missed until the cancer is at an advanced stage and is then very difficult to treat 😔

There needs to be greater advocacy on behalf of people affected by ovarian cancer - we need more research funding and better access to affordable treatment options.

Women (and their loved ones) impacted by ovarian cancer must have their stories told, shared and heard. We need to elevate their experiences to get the word out there.

February is the month to turn things teal and giving day is February 26th 🗓️

If you visit a shop this month and you see fundraising for this cause - buy a ribbon or a pen to show your support and raise awareness, or, you can buy merchandise and donate online - ovariancancer.net.au

AND ladies - listen up! Please 🙏 educate yourselves (and your daughters, friends, anyone and everyone!). Ovarian cancer is NOT an “old age” cancer.

Know the risks, know the symptoms, know how to have this conversation with your GP if you’re concerned.

Ovarian cancer is something that has impacted my family and finding improved ways to screen and treat this terrible disease is very close to our hearts 🩵

And if you or someone you love is affected by ovarian cancer - my heart is with you too. You can find support via the ovarian cancer website, which includes a helpline, emotional and mental health support, support groups, and an amazing teal nurse program. There is also support available for loved ones.

Hey guess what?! 🙀

Not EVERY minute of therapy needs to be an “ahh ha!” mind-blowing moment.

My office is full of fidgets, art supplies, games, casual conversation and pretty lame jokes.

Why?

Well, it’s simple.

🌟 Therapy is mostly about the relationship.
🌟 I am not a bot.
🌟 People interact better when they’re comfortable.

Any therapist or counsellor can collect pieces of paper and spruik their worth through the therapies they’re trained in.

BUT, can you connect? Can you build trust? Can you win a game of Uno from time to time?! 😆

Some of the most meaningful interactions I’ve had with clients have come about through methods that are certainly not written in the step-by-step guide for therapists. They come about through being authentic, feeling comfortable to be creative and a little vulnerable, and in trusting my instincts.

It’s a privilege to be in the room with someone when they are feeling fragile, vulnerable, and trusting to tell you things that they have often not said out loud to anyone before.

I don’t take that for granted and stand by my approach that is - there is NO one size fits all when it comes to mental wellbeing.

And so, I’ll keep working on my Uno and Spot It skills. I’ll keep drawing things for clients that look like Rorschach tests and red-string conspiracy theory collages. And I’ll keep having intermittent light hearted LOL’s.

There are some things they just don’t teach you at therapist school 🫶

ARFID is a newly recognised eating disorder, which became an official diagnosis for adults and children in 2013. For 12-year-old Alex*, the diagnosis came as a relief after years bouncing around the medical system.

New Year and it’s the same Lou 😊

Well, pretty much.

There may be a few new things that I’m working on!

If I already know you - I can’t wait to see you again!

If I am yet to know you - I’m here when you’re ready.

And what are my goals for 2025?

To never stop learning 🤓
To keep making really bad jokes 🤡
To make sure I take lunch breaks 🙊
Complete EFT and PRT training 🧑🏼‍🎓
Aim for a ZERO injury year 🤦‍♀️ [aka Lou shouldn’t use stairs]

That’ll do it!
