Musician Yoshi has quickly become a favourite among residents 🎶

His soothing, melodic bass playing truly resonates. With a wealth of music knowledge, he’s always happy to take song requests, often sharing fascinating facts about each tune along the way.

A true music lover, Yoshi often brings in gems from his treasured 78rpm vinyl collection. Residents are captivated by the low BPM and the crystal-clear warmth of vinyl sound.

When Yoshi heard one resident was a big Elvis fan, he brought in Elvis’s very first released vinyl. What a special moment!

Sharing some memories of a day filled with scenery and serenity 🌞🌿

Earlier this year, Aged Care Centre residents enjoyed an outing to the tranquil Edogawa Commemorative Garden. Surrounded by beautiful flowers and calming greenery, they wandered the garden paths, watched koi fish glide through the ponds and smiled as local children fed the ducks 🦆

It was a morning filled with nature, laughter, and great company.

At , our very own Major Belinda has initiated some new intergenerational activities, welcoming students from a local school to the Centre. Major Belinda had met with The Salvation Army Schools Engagement Coordinator, and from there, the new program began.

The benefit for all parties involved is simply heartwarming, as Major Belinda tells, noting some of the elements of the program include: “The way in which the program is bringing meaning, purpose, and connectedness to a resident’s life. The program is important for students in allowing them to engage with the residents and the precious gift of giving time to older generations.”

For resident Clarence, he mentions the joy the intergenerational program has brought to his life. “I love the music and the dancing,” he says of the activities involved in the program. “I like the students because they are talented and friendly. I feel very happy when the students perform. They make me smile! I’m so happy the students have been invited to the Centre.”

Read more about what residents had to say about Weeroona's intergenerational program at the link below.

Major Belinda says that the program teaches that we all have something to offer.

enjoyed getting into the community spirit, attending both Ipswich NAIDOC and the Inala NAIDOC Family Fun Day. The events were jam-packed with fun activities and a great lineup of cultural performances, offering an immersive insight into the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

explored traditional Aboriginal art and the powerful story it tells and history behind it. Our very own Neetika led the painting session with both residents and staff working on a large collaborative artwork, as well as creating their own works of art. The group artwork is still in progress, but we think it’s already a masterpiece in the making! ✨

Sharing some memories of a day filled with art, music and nostalgia 🎶🎨
In May, residents at enjoyed a colourful outing to the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, where they explored the bold, retro world of 'Enjoy This Trip: The Art of Music Posters'.

The exhibition sparked memories, smiles and conversation, with its display of posters from decades past and a range of music genres. The visual journey throughout music history was definitely a memorable one ✨

There’s nothing sweeter than chocolate - and no better reason to celebrate! 🍫 At , was a feast for the senses.

Picture a chocolate fountain with flowing chocolate and an array of treats for everyone to sink their teeth into. We also had fun with ‘Guess the Candy in the Jar’ game and some chocolate themed trivia, which sparked curiosity and friendly competition.

Residents and staff also settled in for a screening of the 1971 classic W***y Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, followed by plenty of toe-tapping, singing, and dancing, all in classic Macquarie Lodge style. A truly sweet occasion ✨

For , is a significant cultural event. The Centre is home to both residents and staff from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

“We’re continuously learning every day and being a part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations is just so important,” says Kubirri's Lifestyle Coordinator, Maria.

Care Service Employee, Nancy, who forms part of this community notes how significant the occasion is for herself and the residents to strengthen their connection to community.

"I share the same culture with most of the Indigenous residents at Kubirri,” says Nancy. “They are part of my family too. NAIDOC Week is important to acknowledge our culture and respect our elders, which we do every day.”

Attending the community Elders Lunch, dot painting, baking damper and taking part in the NAIDOC Week parade are just a few of the ways that Kubirri will be acknowledging NAIDOC Week. Read more about NAIDOC Week at Kubirri at the link below.

When reflecting on the significance of NAIDOC Week, Maria notes it not just brings together residents, but the whole local community
