Staying informed helps you stay healthy — here’s a quick update on what’s happening across Queensland right now 🩺

Recent health news highlights a few important reminders for our community:

• Measles alerts have been issued in parts of Queensland, including exposure sites linked to Brisbane Airport and the Gold Coast — make sure your vaccinations are up to date and watch for symptoms like fever and rash
• Flu season is approaching, with Queensland Health encouraging vaccination and good hygiene as cases begin to rise
• Hospital demand remains high, with reports of increased emergency department wait times — using GP services for non-emergencies can help ease pressure on hospitals
• Maternity services are under review in some areas, reinforcing the importance of early and regular antenatal care ()

What can you do?
✔ Stay up to date with vaccinations
✔ Practice good hand hygiene
✔ Book a check-up if something doesn’t feel right
✔ Seek the right care — GP vs emergency

Your health — and your family’s health — is our priority. If you have questions or concerns, we’re here to help.

This ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all Australians and New Zealanders who have served our country.

At our clinic, we pay our respects to the ANZAC spirit — courage, mateship, and resilience — values that continue to inspire us in caring for our community every day.

🌺 Lest we forget.

Wishing everyone a safe and reflective ANZAC Day.

🌍 World Immunisation Week 🌍

Vaccines save lives — and this week is a reminder of just how powerful they are. From protecting children to safeguarding entire communities, immunisation helps prevent serious diseases and keeps us all healthier.

Vaccines have long been one of the most powerful tools in public health. Over the past 50 years, vaccines have saved more than 150 million lives – not by accident, but because ordinary people made the decision to protect themselves, their children and their communities from diseases like measles, diphtheria, pertussis, polio, and rotavirus.

Today, newer vaccines against malaria, HPV, cholera, dengue, meningitis, RSV, Ebola, and mpox are saving even more lives, and helping people at every stage of life live longer and healthier thanks to scientific advancements.

During World Immunisation Week, let’s show the world that some family traditions are worth passing on. Under the theme, “For every generation, vaccines work”, World Immunisation Week will promote how vaccines have safely protected people, families, and communities for generations – and continue to safeguard our future.

🌏 Be part of a healthier future for everyone

Every shot counts. Every person matters.

💉 Important Health Update for Older Australians 💙

Great news—free RSV vaccinations are being rolled out for older Australians, helping protect those most at risk from serious illness this winter.

The Australian Government announced yesterday RSV vaccinations will now be covered under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for Australians aged 75 and older, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 years and older

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) can lead to severe respiratory complications, especially for people aged 60 and over. This new initiative makes it easier to stay protected and reduce the risk of hospitalisation.

If you or a loved one may be eligible, speak with your GP or pharmacist about getting vaccinated.

Protect yourself. Protect your community.

Va**ng is often seen as a “safer” alternative to smoking — but the truth is, it still comes with real health risks 🚫💨

Here’s what you should know:

⚠️ Vapes can contain harmful chemicals that irritate and damage your lungs
❤️ Ni****ne in many vapes is highly addictive and can affect heart health
🧠 It can impact brain development in young people, affecting memory and concentration
😮‍💨 Va**ng has been linked to breathing problems, coughing, and reduced fitness
🦠 It may weaken your immune system, making it harder to fight off illness

The long-term effects are still being studied, but early evidence shows va**ng is not risk-free.

If you or someone you care about is trying to quit, support is available — speak to your GP for advice and guidance.

Your health matters. Make informed choices 💙

The Queensland Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation Program is now available for all children aged 2 to 5 years (inclusive).

This program uses FluMist, a nasally administered influenza vaccine, which is approved for use in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

The nasal spray influenza vaccine has been made available for free across Queensland, in General Practices, pharmacies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services, and other community immunisation providers.

The nasal spray influenza vaccine is a safe and effective, needle-free option for influenza vaccination. It is given as a gentle nasal spray into both nostrils, making it convenient for children who may prefer to avoid needles.

Millions of doses of this vaccine have been given to children in the United Kingdom and the United States of America over the past decade. It is safe, well tolerated and provides good protection against influenza, including severe disease.

The needle-free delivery has helped to significantly improve influenza vaccine uptake among children, boosting protection for children, their families and the community.

All medicines, including vaccines can have side effects. Side effects from the nasal spray influenza vaccine are usually mild and most commonly include a runny or blocked nose, headache or general tiredness. More serious side effects, such as anaphylaxis, are extremely rare.

Mental illness costs Australian workplaces more than $39 billion every year. Yet there is a way to reduce
stress, lift mood, and improve focus and connection at work that costs nothing, requires no equipment or training, and
is available to almost every working Australian - just walk.

Walk to Work Day - held this year on Friday 27 March 2026 and proudly supporting Black Dog Institute - is calling on
Australian employers and their staff to step up, step out and walk for their mental health.

People who walk before or during work are generally healthier, more productive and less likely to experience mental health issues. By building walking into everyday routines, individuals and organisations can improve their own wellbeing while supporting Walk to Work and the Black Dog Institute.
