CALM & STRONG 5 WEEK SERIES- Set the Tone for 2025
Think about the tension in your shoulders after a stressful event, or the way your jaw tightens when you're anxious.
These physical responses are your body’s natural reaction to stress, triggered by your body entering "fight or flight" mode. This response activates your adrenal glands, which release cortisol—the stress hormone.
Cortisol prepares your body for action, whether you're facing a looming deadline, navigating a tough conversation, or simply trying to keep up with a busy day. This hormonal surge increases your heart rate, raises your blood pressure, and, most notably, causes muscle tension.
While muscle tension is a normal part of the stress response, it becomes problematic when it lingers. Over time, if the stress continues, that tension doesn’t fade. Instead, it becomes chronic, and your body starts interpreting it as a continuous stressor, prompting your adrenal glands to keep releasing cortisol. This creates a dangerous loop: tight muscles signal stress, which triggers more cortisol, leading to even more tension.
This cycle of tension and cortisol release can lead to chronic pain, fatigue, and burnout, as your body never fully has the chance to relax and reset.
However, when you bring awareness to the tension in your body—whether it’s caused by ongoing stress, repetitive movement, or emotional overwhelm—it opens up the opportunity for change. Through Somatic Movement, you can break the cycle of stress and tension, allowing your body to return to a more peaceful, comfortable state. By shifting how you move, you shift how you feel, think, and experience life. This isn’t about perfecting a pose or reaching a goal, but about bringing ease into everyday actions—like walking, bending, or simply sitting—making life feel more comfortable and enjoyable.
Clinical Somatic Education offers a beautiful and profound way to reconnect with your body. Instead of focusing on external achievement or rigid rules, it invites you to explore your inner experience of movement. It’s a practice that deepens the connection between body, mind, and environment, creating space for transformation on every level—physically, emotionally, and mentally.
Through the Calm & Strong Series, you'll learn through movement to reduce muscular tension, break the stress cycle, and step into 2025 with a deeper sense of ease and empowerment.

SEPTEMBER SERIES: CENTRE to PERIPHERY
Our limbs, the distal parts of us, usually do most of our direct interacting with the world, their muscle and bone structure are designed for refined, detailed tasks of enacting our intention in the world: touching things, balancing and orienting our weight on two small pillars, our feet. They’re made to precisely direct muscular forces that come from more central parts of us.
Even the powerful leg muscles are designed to work in harmony with more powerful muscles of the torso and pelvis. Many of us spend little time improving the coordination and efficiency of our centre. This creates more wear and tear for our distal structures as they struggle without enough effective support from our powerful middle parts: carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, and many knee, ankle and foot troubles are a few common ailments.
We evolved to enjoy our whole self moving harmoniously, using the suppleness of our chest and torso, integrated with our legs, to carry us around with grace and ease.
The 4 week September Series starts Monday 2nd September 6.15-7.15pm and Thursday 5th September 6.30pm-8pm. Booking essential.

NEW 5 week Somatic Series
Supple Shoulders and Healthy Hips
Shoulder movement mirrors hips movement.
Your shoulders counterbalance your hips with every step. This helps us stay balanced when we walk/run.
If you have a hip imbalance, or one ankle tighter than the other, or one knee that hurts…your hips are going to have to manage that with every step. Which means your shoulders have to work harder to counterbalance and compensate for the hips being out of balance and as a result the larger muscles in the centre of the body become tight further restricting movement in the shoulders and hips.
Join me and learn how to release muscular imbalances and restore function for greater freedom in your shoulders and hips.
MONDAY 6.15-7.30pm
Please note due to two public holidays in March these lessons will be on TUESDAY instead.
THURSDAY 10-11.30am
THURSDAY 6.30-7.45pm MEDITATION 15 minutes after the lesson is optional.

NEW 5 WEEK SERIES STARTING 29th JANUARY 2024
RELEASING THE UPPER BODY- BACK, NECK, SHOULDER, ARM and HAND TENSION
If you sit at a computer all day with your upper back rounded, chest muscles tight and head thrust forward this becomes a habit. You drive home in the car, sitting in the same rounded position and then once you’re home you might sit and watch the TV still in that same rounded position. When you repeat that pattern for days, weeks, months, years your brain will consider this position as “normal”. Even when you think you are standing up straight your brain will hold onto tension in the muscles which have been shortened all day and your posture will look stooped or rounded and this may lead to chronic pain. Even if you massage those muscles or stretch them, they will soon revert back to the posture that your brain considers “normal”.
This is an example of one of the posture patterns that can become habituated. During this series we will also address other posture patterns that become habituated and can cause discomfort or chronic pain.
Somatic movements reset the resting length of the muscles, using a process that engages the brain, called pandiculation.

THURSDAYS 10.00 -11.30am
6.30 – 7.30pm meditation optional 20 minutes

Our Story

Hello my name is Leanne, after completing Yoga Teacher Training in 2009, LeAnanda Yoga was started in 2010 to share my passion of Yoga with the people in the Riverland. I travelled to Canada in 2012 to complete a teacher training in Therapeutic Yoga and Restorative Yoga. In 2017, I became a Hanna Clinical Somatic Education Movement teacher and Integrative Restoration (iRest) meditation teacher. I personally find Somatics very complimentary to Yoga, as it is very beneficial for releasing muscular tension and pain, which induces relaxation in the body and mind. I feel very grateful for all the benefits I have personally gained from the healing and deeply replenishing modalities of Yoga, Somatics and Meditation and it is my heartfelt intention to continue to grow and share these practices. LeAnanda Yoga is a welcoming studio space dedicated to promoting yoga and somatic practices that can be integrated into participants daily life. The studio is fully equipped, all you need to bring is yourself and an openness to reconnect with yourself.

Somatics classes run on Monday night and Yoga Ease classes run on Thursday night. Yoga Ease and is a combination of Somatics, Therapeutic yoga, Restorative yoga, Hatha yoga and Meditation. Thursday morning is the Ageing Well Yoga Ease class and is a great way to improve and find ease in movement as you age. All classes focus on easy, gentle movements that reduce pain caused by chronic muscular contraction and are suitable for beginners. See you on the mat. Bookings essential.
