We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Victoria Cogger as the founding Executive Director of the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator 👏

Following a highly competitive global search, Professor Cogger joins us with an outstanding track record in research, commercialisation and executive leadership. An internationally recognised leader in ageing liver and drug delivery, she brings deep expertise in translating research into real-world outcomes.

“Taking this role is the realisation of a lifelong ambition to really focus on impact, and to give others the opportunity to do the same,” said Professor Cogger.

Professor Cogger’s leadership will be instrumental in achieving the SBA’s mission to fast-track world-leading research into real-world healthcare solutions. Her appointment marks an important and exciting new chapter in this visionary partnership between the University of Sydney, Sydney Local Health District and NSW Government.

We are proud to celebrate our Concord Hospital Burns Unit for winning the Health Innovation award at the 2025 NSW Health Awards.

The Unit’s groundbreaking 3D bioprinted skin project is a first-in-human clinical trial currently for burns victims and it is expected to advance the treatment of any sort of soft-tissue loss.

Dr Jo Maitz, Group Lead of the Burns and Reconstructive Surgery Research Group at the Concord Burns Unit, said she was honoured to accept the award on behalf of an incredible multidisciplinary team of engineers, clinicians and scientists.

Congratulations to Dr Jeffrey Wang and the team from the Atherosclerosis Team here at ANZAC and beyond for their recent publication:

“Triglyceride-rich lipoprotein, remnant cholesterol, and apolipoproteins CII, CIII and E in patients with schizophrenia”

This work shows that people living with Schizophrenia have significantly altered lipid profiles that are not explained by traditional metabolic risk factors such as obesity and diabetes. This finding provides new opportunities for targeted therapies for elevated triglycerides and cardiovascular risk in this underserved population.
