May’s word of the month is Iliopsoas. The iliopsoas is the main hip flexor muscle, although it is actually made up of two muscles - the psoas, which starts at the lumbar spine, and the iliacus, which starts from the inside of the pelvis. The two meet at the pelvis and run along the front of the hip to join onto the femur. If you damage this muscle, you are likely to experience pain at the front of your hip, which may radiate down your thigh. You might also experience pain in your low back. Who has felt the pinch of hip flexor pain before? 😣

March’s word of the month is Ganglion.

A ganglion cyst is a fluid-filled lump that appears near joints, usually on the wrist, hands or fingers. This is due to fluid accumulation around a joint or tendon as a result of trauma or arthritis.

They might look scary, but ganglion cysts are completely harmless. They can be drained with a needle and syringe, or removed through minor surgery.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common problem, usually caused by repetitive movements like typing or playing racket sports. It causes the tendons in the wrist to become swollen and press on the median nerve. This leads to pain, aching, tingling, or numbness in the hand.

If you’ve had carpal tunnel before or think you might be at risk, there are some simple exercises that can help reduce your chances of experiencing symptoms.

For example, try resting your elbow on a table with your arm pointing upwards. Gently bend your wrist forward at a right angle and hold for 5 seconds. Then bend your wrist backward and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.

If you’re struggling with carpal tunnel syndrome, get in touch today. We will do our best to get you pain-free ASAP 👌🏼

Are you feeling tired? 😴🛌🏼

We all get run down and low on energy sometimes, but if the tiredness becomes extreme it could be Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

As well as severe tiredness, symptoms can include muscle or joint pain, headaches, flu-like symptoms, nausea, heart palpitations and problems thinking or concentrating.

The exact cause of CFS is not known, but it can follow periods of overwork, stress or depression, and some cases occur after an infectious illness such as glandular fever.

Feeling fatigued? Let us know during your next appointment and we’ll help you get to the bottom of it 🙌🏼
